Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

How do we email the BC CFO? I recently faxed an application for a LT ATT but there was nowhere to add my email address. How do some people get their ATT's by email?

good thing your parcel isn't at the post office and your are trying to get it home... That could easily result in a lost gun when it bounces around.

seriously, that's ridiculous.

I sent this to my MP a couple days ago. Haven't received a response yet back but I haven't hit his usual 5 day response time yet.

Hello Mr. ######,

First, I would like to thank you for your very timely response to my last letter regarding the unfavourable changes that were being considered regarding the explosives act and limits on ammunition that could be stored in a residence or business. It is very much appreciated.

As I mentioned in my last letter to you, I am a resident in your riding and an active sport shooter, hunter, and pistol shooting enthusiast. I have recently purchased a new restricted firearm and am currently waiting for the Office of the BC Chief Firearms officer to approve the transfer of the firearm into my name and finalize the authorization to transport (ATT) paperwork. Although I have only been waiting a few days for this process as of today's date, as is to be expected, I have spoken to many other residents throughout BC whom have stated they have been waiting upwards of one month for the transfer and approval process to be completed. Some of these individuals have contacted the Chief Firearms Officer's office and have been told that the process is now taking 4-6 weeks and this has become the standard. In the vast majority of cases the extremely slowed approval process prevents individuals purchasing a new firearm from collecting their newly acquired property until they receive the proper paperwork from the Chief Firearms Officer. I am wondering if you may be able to look into this matter, on behalf of all owners of restricted firearms in British Columbia, as it seems unreasonable that a bureaucratic process should withhold an individuals newly purchased property for such an extensive period of time?

Thank you very much for your time and, on behalf of firearms owners in the riding of ######XX, and across Canada, thank you for your continued support.

Warmest Regards,

Nice! Maybe if more people complain something will get done...d:h:

You don't. Phone, leave message or fax. You provide them with your email.

In BC the CFO will never ever give you information in writing or in a voicemail, always over the phone. If your STATT or LTATT gets approved it just gets e-mailed to you with no correspondance.

That is not want the guy was asking. He wanted to know the CFO's email address. I told him to phone or fax his info to the CFO and provide HIS email so the CFO could email his ATT to him.

Thanks StoneHorse, I will do that. You would think that they would ask for email info on the application form.

Maybe that sort of change has to go through a study committee and then a approval board before being signed off by the Justice Minister. Don't laugh, I'm half serious.

If its any consolation Quebec is exactly the same...It use to take maximum 7-10 days!
now for a restricted 3-4 weeks and AR's are 2 months...

Mr. H

I am writing you today to express my concern with the Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) of BC. They have advised me that there is a 4-6 week wait in their processing of long term authorization to transport (LTATT) permits. This seems a bit strange since there is no longer a requirement to register non-restricted firearms meaning their work load has been more than cut in half.

I have many friends from other provinces and also many from BC who have had their LTATT and restricted firearms transfers completed in a much more reasonable time frame. Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have same day Transfers and LTATT in under a week. I would have no problem at all with it taking up to 10 business days for the LTATT but 4-6 weeks is not acceptable. If I worked that slowly I would be fired and I would expect to be.

Can you look into this matter for me and consider this my formal complaint. I have paid all the fees, jumped through all the hoops set out my the CFO, completed all the timely training all in order to get my firearms license. I am paying for range membership fees and have paid for my firearm, which they tell me I can not even pick up until the LTATT is completed. I Have been waiting*25 days*already and that should be ample time.*

As a long time Conservative Party of Canada supporter (both volunteer and financial), I expect to get some feedback or explanation for such delays for every time I attempt to contact the CFO of BC, I am greeted with rudeness and unanswered questions. Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

Noel Morris

Thk

Sooner or later the government has to get the idea law abiding citizens aren't happy about this, right? (Sarcasm intended) d:h:

DWeenz helps with most of that letter, I just personalized it a bit more. But we'll see where that goes and what the response is, im looking forward to it and will post

good stuff noel_morris i am still waiting for some kind of reply to my email. I have never been very political before but i also can't stand being lied to. so i feel it is our duty to expose these people, i plan to call the cfo again this time request a written copy of their statement that it is taking 4-6 weeks to complete and the name of the representative i speak with. and provide them with my email address to make it easy for them.

There is a crew from the BC-CFO office (they have a booth) at the HuntFest Show in Chilliwack this weekend. I forgot to ask them what's the deal with the delays but I did tell them what I thought of ATT's.

Good letters, but the CFO never had anything to do with long gun transfers. The demise of th LGR should have had little effect on transfer times.
When I asked, I was told there is a high volume of restricted transfers.

I can't help but feel they are being petty, and vindictive.
We are not customers. We are surfs.

The more and more I wait, the more and more shopping I do. I'm thinking since I'm running with 40 cal. I dont really want to deal with other calibers. The Steyr ma1 in 40 is looking good..but then Im reminded of this absolute pain in the ass im going through now just to get my first pistol and think no..no I dont want it...bastards
