I wanted to post this as immediately! I just finished buying 500 case of Winchester 9mm Luger 115 gr FMJ at the local shop. It was on sale $140/500 so I figured this would hold me over until my value pack order came in. I have previously bought this ammo in the value packs and had absolutely no issue. I have put 1000rnds down range without fail. I got to the range and started to load my mags found that for some reason they weren't loading smoothly managed to get 7 rounds into one mag and about 5 in another and about 4 into another. Anxious to shoot I thought maybe it was time to clean my mags???? racked the first mag and second shot, failed to feed. Cleared it racked it up and second shot failed. But this time it was jammed, and not just any jam, almost seized. After literally heaving on the slide with the help of one of the RO's finally freed it up. Btw.. this is a Gen 3 Glock 17, thousands of rounds not one issue. We decided to start inspecting the ammo... I'll be f**ked... Completely reloaded odd sized ammo, not properly pressed all different brass, bullet sizes varying in size up to 1/4" to 3/8" difference in Length. an absolute complete nightmare. Called the shop and they said they make it right, I just wanted to warn everyone else out there. Luckily the Glock was unharmed mags as well! put 50 rounds of Federal through it afterwards to clean it out ;) no issues.

I try to post some pics... unbelievable!

Where did you buy it from? Have they always sold this ammo? Or a recent "sale" and once it's gone, its gone?

Did you buy it as new ammo or reloaded?

Have heard of this issue on other forums. They basically cite that Winchester value packs so not use SAAMI standards, which doesnt make sense. I think that you should check the OAL of the ammo, and may find this is the proble.

The Winchester crap seems to have these problems quite often.

Guess I will stick to good old MFS.

Until I just bought a 1000rd case of Federal American Eagle 55gr FMJ (the "AR223" stuff),
my AR has had ~420rds of Winchester (white box) .223Rem 55gr FMJ and 80rds of 45gr JHP CXP1 thru it...

Not a single problem...

Thats awesome, but until they develop some way to put 9mm through your .223 AR, I am not surprised you haven't had this issue.

And you have been here how long?

4 months?

I have seen at least 4 threads on this topic here, and at least the same on other forums in the last few years that I have been here. Surprisingly I have never really heard about this with many other brands except one complaint about some bad Norinco rounds.

Thanks for your insightful post though. :jerkit:

OP said brass was different. Bullets were different. Sounds as more than inconsistent factory ammo.

I believe in the last thread on the same topic, which actually came from the same store I believe, it was the same story.

Members were accusing the shop of selling reloads as factory and such, but I have seen different head stamps on the WWB even in the same box before.

It's just what I noticed in original (first) post. And I remember seeing similar claims (2-3-4 or so) that I saw on here in the past 2-3 months.

I haven't bought factory 9mm ammo in last 4+ years. I trust my own reloads way more. And others who shot them were very happy too. Loaded and shot about 55-60K so far since I started reloading.
The only factory ammo I bought in those last years was 30-06, for hunting rifle, and I'd open each and every box at the store to inspect ammo before paying for it.

I reload my own to. If I don't have time, or just get lazy then it has been MFS, which so far has given me no issues.

New factory ammo rarely has mixed brass, primers, or bullets, and US factory ammo usually looks nice and clean. If the rounds in question did not look good, I would really look into the claim of the retailer selling reloads.
I have fired thousands of rounds of WWB 9mm ammo and NEVER had a problem or question about its quality.

Ammo factory production lines have inspection stations. The rejected ammo accumulates and is supposed to be burned. Every once in awhile the pallet of bad ammo gets sent to the packaging line and a few cases of real bad ammo get shipped.

if most of the rounds in that box look bad, it is probably a box of rejects. i am sure Winchester will apologize and replace it. They will want the ammo and original box with the lot#.
