7mm WSM vs. 7mm RSAUM

seating length

You are right: any short action is badly handicapped in this way, with way too short a magazine-box; as all the heavyweight bullets are seated nearly halfway into the case, taking up much needed precious powder space in any of these shor magnum rounds. An 'intermediate size action would be the answer of wich I will have on in the works shortly, that can seat the long 180VLD's or even Accubonds out to 80 plus mm OAL.

From my testing and measuring..the 7WSM will not work with high B.C bullets in a SA . Way to much of the bullet is seated to function as a repeater..
Is there anyone with first hand knowledge with high B.C bullets..with a SA..that could chime in??
I may have to go with a LA..and that would knid of defeat the purpose for me..

The Seekins detachable mag has room for up to 3.140" OAL. Just enough room for seating Berger 180gr Hybrid's.

Sure there is better actions out there for a 7mmWSM build I agree.

However, the Rem700 SA and Seekins detachable mag system has worked flawlessly for me. :D

I've been looking at 7mm-300 Saum since Norma makes the brass. The SAUM is shorter, and that gives it more options for bullets if you're feeding from a magazine.

7rsaum

Thats what a lot of folks said about the whole short-magnum range. On the contrary; 'Big Green' itself is still producing this brass and has no plannes to 'cann it' yet. The .300 RSAUM brass is still readily available from Norma and serves as a perfect candidate to neck down. I have also contacted Lapua a while back and asked them when they could start producing the 7mm RSAUM case? They didn't say they never would: instead they said they had no immediate plannes and would hold-off for at least the next year or two. I personally think it will come back in this chambering over the next few years. Not only because it has proven itself on the Bisley and others for the last two years, but it does the same or even better out of all of the short magnums.
More so: Brl.-live is a hell of a lot better then any of the WSM's and nearly comparable to standard caliber rounds. There is no denying: it has the perfect combination of powder-volume / case-size to push those heavyweight 180gr. VLD's. Off-course: if 'every man and his dog' is going for the WSM's in favour of just a few extra feet per second, then it will go the way of the 'Do-Do'! Time will tell and we'll see what happens.
i would go wsm because i think the 7saum is not long for this world!
ballistcally they are very simular.

I realize the Seekins system is slightly longer, but it is not as common either. Plus, I want use my existing M700 SA and just change the bolt... My AICS mags all have the front plates removed, so they aren't as limited as regular ones. Many guys were running 7mmWSM in 308 AICS mags before WSM mags were available. It only required bending out the feed lips slightly. I have a mag that was done to. All that they did for the WSM is bend the feed lips out and move the rib that holds the shoulder forward a bit. You can still run the mags with the shoulder ahead of the rib. I run my 6mm Crusader rounds our of a 308 mag, and it's shoulder is ahead of it, it just limits you from using the mag to it's full capacity. I only get 9 in the 10 round mag even though the case bodies are the same diameter.

Thanks for sharing the info. I looked at using HS Precision bottom metal and doing the modifications like you said were done long before the "WSM" mags came around.

Found 2 sets of Seekins bottom metal, and problem solved, no bending this or tweaking that. :D
