Mosin Original WW2 Dated Matching Sniper Rifles for SALE!

Question for everyone who has recieved their rifle. Mine has two differnent finishes on the stock. The normal amber from the rear handguard band to the butt. Forward of that it looks like a brown finish that was applied after and not very nicely done. All over the bands as well. Maybe done after the lazer markings on barrel were done to cover the removal of the bands. Anyone else have the same?
Thanks

I received my import marked ATI import Izhevsk from Wolverine today.

Not sure what I expected but I received what looks like a new rifle! All cartouches are nice and clear on the wood, overall near excellent condition! The stock finish is very nice indeed.

The box is marked Tula.

The import marking is not that bad at all.

I can't imagine receiving more for the $.

My Wolverine ATI import Tula arrives today. If I can get some pics I'll get them up.

do they all have the electro pencil# on the scope mount ,cant im real fond of that looks much worse than an import mark.looks like it was scratched on with a nail, just my 2 cents worth

I picked up a Tula this afternoon at P&D. Scope mount had a stamped serial number with Cyrillic "PM" matching all other parts. So there are some not electro penciled out there.

I'm in full agreement...also very much not fond of the electropencil. Thus one reason why I bought the Wolverine rifle with stamped serial on the mount.

It really boils down to "You get what you pay for".

Electropencil, Red Shellac and Black Dip Blueing are a bonus and freebee at the bottom end of the price range for the budget minded.

At the top end of the price scale, you can have an unaltered 70's or 80's import.

Like the man at the parts counter says, "If you wanna to play, you gotta pay."

Ours is exactly the same, kinda wondering why it is there myself.

First impression on Wolverine ATI Tula (no pictures yet, I got home late).

1) Sure, the lasered American import stamp sucks, but I knew it was there.
2) Scope # is stamped on left side of receiver with absolutely no indication this was a recent job nor was anything ground off first underneath
3) Stock is in awesome shape, no messy shellac, looks like (almost, who knows for sure) original finish and has Tula cartouches on buttstock. The upper handguard, however, is a slightly different shade which leads me to believe it has been replaced.
4) Bore/barrel are in impeccable shape, slightly dirty but cleaned right up.
5) Mag, receiver, bolt are all matching.
6) Sniper marking present on receiver as expected.

I'll unwrap scope and mount tonight.

OK, got my Tradex Izhevsk sniper today. No pics though.
First impression: Looks nice.

Interesting features:

The crown looks nice, but I have yet to clean the grease out of the bore.

Date on barrel shank: 1944r
Slight grinding scallop where the scope number is stamped on the barrel shank.

The reciever ring appears a bit irregular as if it had also been ground or sanded. There is a crude "2" electropenciled on top of the receiver ring, that has been blued over.

The bluing is consistent over the new numbers/ground down area, and there is black paint and shelac splatter from the stock refurb on the barrel and sights - so clearly the blueing, then stock refinish happened after the current scope was matched to the rifle.

Scope base cutout in the stock looks to have been done by hand. The lower notch is a bit crooked, and they made the rear vertical cut a bit too deep.

Izhevsk mark on the scope mount.
Scope is an un-dated progress 91/30 No5-64###
Refurb mark on scope: [X] K. with no date.

hey Tom thats awesome i just looked up my original sniper that was found in an old gunstores basement ... my rifle sn is KX 1886 on the list from you there is KX 1891 only 5 away my rifle scope number on the side of the barrel is 4425405 the one on the list is 4426917 not too far apart my rifle is 1944 as is KX 1891...thats pretty cool ..btw the owner of the gunstore said this gun was in the basement at least 35 years ...it is not complete i had to find a bolt and a scope the mount was still on the gun as was all the wood and bands ...got the scope and scope mount out of europe about 6 years ago ..came in russian marked and dated 1950 packaging and it is also Izhevsk stamped got lucky there

I shot my ATI US import Izhevsk today. It was fun!

The scope was close on windage, but the reticle was high to line up. Easy enough to fix that, as long as I can move the 2 staked screws.

Adjusting these PU scopes is a snap.

Worked pretty slick.

That's what we need, more of this.

Thank you Sir.

Want to check whether your Izhevsk Mosin sniper's serial number falls into a known sniper range?

http://forums.gunboards.com/showthre...30-sniper-list

Now here is something that I have always had a problem with!

Not, Toms post, but what do they mean by range.

I always thought that Snipers where picked for the individual accuracy of each rifle.

I can see where groups of rifles where issued to certain military units as in the Civil War, but a bunch of Snipers picked in groups.

Did they find one good one then take the next ten or so along with it and make them Snipers?

Not trying to be a smart @ss here, just curious about the answer to my question.
