Save my 858!!!!

Have you tried a bore brush?

Hey guys thanks for all the input. I didn't really intend to make another forum on cleaning techniques, and while I understand the relevance suffice it to say that there's no water left by the time I'm done my cleaning. My real problem is how to make existing rust not exist anymore to the point where it won't come back. I need some suggestions that go beyond regular cleaning techniques, some sort of rust- specific solvent or something. Thanks again!

Throw it in the dishwasher like that guy did on the battle rifle forum did. Lmfao! While you are at it, throw your t.v in too and see how that works out. I don't know why anyone would bother boiling water when there are products at every gun shop that neutralize corrosive priming and clean/lubricate all in one shot. G-96 does all that and smells good too. Hoppes would be my second choice. Just my 2 cents...!

Because boiling water costs nothing?

i had a barrel that was rusted out from not cleaning. found a plastic bore brush, plugged the chamber. ran it on a cordless drill using LOTS of WD40. barrel looked ok after a few minutes. there was some pitting, but it was clean.

nothing will get rid of the pitting, missing steel will always be missing. gun shoots the same as my other VZ's.

I don't think it's been said in this thread yet, so allow me to be the first to point out the fact:

WD40 is NOT an appropriate preservative oil

It is a Water Displacer. It is not specifically a lubricant and does not protect steel from rusting.

Get some proper oil and it will stop rusting. I don't care if it's specifically gun oil or CLP or ATF or even engine oil, but it MUST be a viscous petroleum or lipid based liquid applied with a rod and patch.

Out!

Same thing happened to me. A couple days in the bush and rust due to high humidity. Keep alternating pulling cleaning pads (with solvent or hoppes) with a wire brush. Might take 30-40 pads but it will come clean. 5 pads, 10 pulls with a brush, repeat until clean. Elbow grease.

wipe out is amazing stuff!i've tried a lot of cleaners,oils...
wipeout is foaming bore cleaner, spray it in the bore, remove all wood if it
will make contact with the stock/handguards.(damages wood finish)
after foaming it in walk away for a day.
after a day, patch until dry,the patches will come out royal blue or dark gray/brown
or a combo of the 2.
repeat,repeat again until no blue/grey/brown.
oil heavily with g96 or breakfree clp.

i have tried the jb non embedding paste, seems to work well.it says it's not an abrasive but i think it's a very mild abrasive like "flitz" polishing compound.

another thing to try, if it hasnt been sugested, is disel, but with all the sugested solutions so far i would just go with one for few days, than after removing any traces of that cleaner would i move to try another, mixing all those differnt solluables and oils cant be good for a gun

all i use is wd 40 works absolutely GREAT!, take 15min to clean my cz 858 with hot water and bore brush then wd the #### out of it , not one spec of rust anywhere.

so in short i disagree, plus they even say to use it in the manual.

all i ever do is use wd40 after shooting, i have probably 3 or 4 thousand rounds of corrosive thru it, and after i shoot i remove piston, remove bolt carrier, spray the barrell and barrell opening HEAVILY, soak piston/ piston housing, soak bolt parts....then wipe dry and put away.......takes like 5 mins.
i have had no issues at all with corrosion, i clean it properly every 2 or 3 times shooting....and if its going to be stored for a long time, i soak patches in gun oil and lube the barrell. The wd 40 will neutralize the corrosive salts in the primers of surplus ammo, and get rid of any water/moisture in metal :)
