New Desert Eagle quality issues

I was going to roll my eyes but then remembered some of the gun laws in Ontario...

Do they even bother explaining why? Or is it just one of those "it's a gun law, don't seek logic" things?

That's a easy one, everybody knows a gold DE is just as scary as a switchblade or a butterfly knife, if they were allowed people couldn't leave their homes and feel safe.

correct me if i am wrong, but in cali they ban/prohibit base on exact makes/models, not just types.

an AR from manufacturer "A" is OK, but not from "B".

AR from manufacturer "A" widget type is no-go, but if it has a gizmo type then it is ok.

Yes - basically.
If a manufacturer who wishes to sell handguns in California, they must pay the DOJ to conduct a list of certification tests.
Magnum research was only willing to be bent over twice I guess, and chose to enter these two models.

Where are you guys buying your DEs from?

I got mine off an online retailer that went by Astorarms. Freedom Ventures (one of the site sponsors) sells them for $1850 for the black one.

I found they were not as easy to find in 50ae as people made it seem but they are definetly for sale.

This finish is straight up awesome. Anyone know of a Canadian plater that does gold titanium and can work on pistols?

I bought mine two years ago. It was flawless then and it's flawless now. Fantastically accurate, SOOOO much fun to shoot.

I reload for it and it now costs me about .80 cents a round. I use Hogdon H110 powder, it's a really slow burning powder so quite a bit of it turns into a huge flame ball about 6' long and 3' in diameter. Very impressive.

Watch my friend's grin get bigger and bigger. That's what the Desert Eagle is for - making huge flames, huge recoil, and most importantly - HUGE grins that last all day.

I bought a Titanium Gold finish 50AE NIB then returned it because when I opened it (wrapped in plastic) the finish was awful. It went back to Kahr and still came back unacceptable. I walked from it. I'll wait for the next batch this fall to see if they are any better. If you're going to spend that kind of coin you'd better get what you want.

Any pics of the problems? Please report back if you try another one before I get it.

Here it is. Look closely and you'll see:

- note the stain on the rear serrations
- note the missing finish under the rear serrations
- note the missing finish on the muzzle

Looks like the pistol grip screw is from an old bicycle seat as well. ;)
Did they scrap their QC department? How did that thing get loose - twice no less??
Strike one for the US manufactured model.

Looks better than I thought. The stain doesn't come off? I think the only flaw that would bug me is the blotch in the finish by the beavertail. I was going to say I could probably live with it but you're right... for that kind of money, if it won't blow me and cook me dinner, it might as well be flawless.

How come your safety is like the Mark 1?

Naw it looked really bad up close in person. Anyone would feel regret for settling I think. That stain was in the metal. So it's one bad egg no big deal. Seen it lots with all kinds of pistols and manufacturers. I'll wait for a clean one and if the timing is right then she's meant to be.

Just to give this thread closure, my unicorn has arrived and the finish is flawless! It's really hard to get a good shot of it showing just how glorious it looks. It's like a sculpted gold bar, just amazing. This is the first time I've wanted a carry permit, so I didn't have to part with it going to work.

Sure they are expensive to buy and expensive to feed, they are heavy and bulky and too big to have a comfortable grip on, BUT it is my Favorite gun in the safe!! Any time it has a ftf I always know before hand, because I can feel myself "limpwrist" it, even if it only fed 4/9 shots, who cares, it's a blast too shoot.
