Thanks for the tip ^^^ I just picked up a serpa down south. Guys i dealt with were great and let me try out a bunch. I really liked it so i figured not to worry about reviews. I can always upgrade later butI think this should do the trick!
Do your research. Part of the problem with Serpa's is that small pebbles, debris and fabric can get caught in the release mechanism and lock it up solid.
Not to mention that ND's can ad do happen with these holsters. Most well respected trainers across North America will not allow students to use them in a course.
This guy was using a Serpa....

I actually did quite a bit of research before hand, but like most products, there are thousands who say great and thousands who say awful. Also, it seems there are other factors that may have contributed to the ND in the video - and he himself didn't blame the gear. So I went with what felt most comfortable and natural for me personally. I didn't feel as comfortable with the thumb release style and I didn't like the twist release either. The guys at the shop did inform me of the possible ND issues but explained why these may occur. They showed me the proper way to use the release and my finger placement was nowhere near the trigger when drawing. I've been practicing with it quite a bit and I really like it a lot so far. That being said, you guys are clearly more experienced than me so I appreciate the advice and I will be even more cognizant of the potential for danger if used improperly.
Really? Please show me thousands of poor reviews for safairland holsters or bladtech.
I am sorry but the serpa is a bad design and there is a reason it is banned from most schools in the states.
You right it dose look like all will be good with the release in the store or on the range. But the reality is with stress, adrenalin and sympathetic finger movement it can go wrong fast. And it has enough that schools have banned them.
If it works for you that is great, but it real is a crappy design.

Seems as though the safariland vs serpa discussion has been discussed ad nauseum and there seemed to be plenty of people on both sides of that equation.
And I do appreciate advice from those with more knowledge than myself so please don't take any offense. I personally didn't feel the risk outweighed the benefits (good chance this may change in the future if its really as bad as many say) but again, personal preference. If I do put a hole in my leg, I promise you get first crack at "I told ya so!"![]()
I have a Serpa that I use as a loaner holster - but I've removed the retention device, I'd hate to be responsible for an incident.
