What's the Appeal of the Cz/Vz?

I found the rifle a pain to clean. It wasn't so much how it broke down, but that it had to be cleaned after every range session because I could only find corrosive ammo. Now I only have AR15s. They don't get cleaned as often.

No worries here man, not about Gremlin's or stoppages, I don't shoot a CZ:p

On a more serious note it may not have happened to you, and that's great, but apparently it happens to others. I would hate to be one of the unlucky ones.

Anyone else have a take on these CZ Gremlin's???

You never had any problems with your $3500 SA?? Oh wait

I've had 3 or 4 CZ/VZs over the years. Only problems hsppened when using the BT adapter. You can find a used CZ for 5/600 dollars and be ready to take a carbine course or take some mall ninja vids and post them on YouTube. Small investment to get into the sport, or have a good defensive gun that you can trust your life too, but in the end it comes down to the operator, a good rifleman can be profient with any gun given some trigger time, not so good rifleman needs high end toys to compensate for their lack of abilities.

Ive got 1.5k through my CSA VZ and NO gremlin. Thanks to the tabbed bolt carrier im assuming. But, if you read through more than just the one "gremlin" thread youll see the vast majority of people DONT have issues with their 858's. And those who do can have them easily fixed. I refuse to believe there has never been a model of AR that had some issues.

The way I see it, if you got a good one, youd trust your life with it. If you got a finicky one, you probably wont. Ive got 4 mags that, after the collapse of law, I will unpin and can carry 120 rounds on me. The rest I can load from stripper clips... yup, VZ 58 does that too.

Just picked up a CSA VZ 58 NR a week ago, it was my first rifle purchase, and damn it feels good to shoulder. I am yet to get out and shoot it, I'm hoping to this weekend. From my limited experience, and all the reading I've done on them (and my biased opinion, seeing it's the only rifle I own so far) I don't think you can go wrong picking one up.

Only the czh2003 were chrome lined. None of the newer ones are.

All the CSA Vz58 are advertised as chrome lined...

Don't know about you... but if something isn't quite right with one of my firearms (or my car for that matter)... I usually do my best to have it fix.

Yes I do as well, I also usually avoid guns with tendency's to have problems (Or Ford Pinto's for that matter)

I had two 'gremlins' on my first trip to the range... had the bolt carrier tabbed... two crates of ammo later, it's been 100% reliable...

Sounds pretty reliable now. I see no reason not to trust it at that point.

For all we know, he might have tried to do like Marc Lepine... and tried to modify his rifle to shoot 'faster'...

I suppose it's possible, but somehow I suspect our over zealous media would take full advantage of even the mere suggestion that the 858 in question was modified in anyway. I suspect the CZ gremlin actually saved lives in this case.

I did have issues with a Swiss Arms rifle, and as SillyMike suggested he would do, I am doing my best to have it fixed, however, fixed or not, it is no longer trusted, and unfortunately probably never truly will be again. If there were numerous threads discussing "Gremlin's" (as there are with the CZ) surrounding Swiss rifles, then I would feel the same way about them as I do the CZ's.

I still think there great, fun, cheap guns

A few of you have taken my comments in the wrong way, as I said above, there fun, cheap, and a great entry level rifle, apparently these CSA rifles all have a tabbed carrier which defeat's the mighty gremlin, I didn't know this, and I suppose it makes the CSA models more reliable. I simply said I wouldn't trust my life to it. If you want to, fill your boots.

Sweet baby Jesus we are back to the "trust your life on it" discussion.

If you can't trust your life to a firearm that is based on one of the most successful, battle proven assault rifles in history, you most likely drank to much tacticoolaid and need to detox . I suggest you cash in your tavors/vectors and $4K AR's and buy a gun that should it jam, is still solid enough to beat someone to death.

Anyone else have a take on these CZ Gremlin's???

It is a known issue that affects a small number of guns. There is an established fix that eliminates the problem. The new CSA carbines come tabbed already, so should have zero issues with the problem.

Since moving to the city, that's the only place available to shoot most of the time anyhow.

+1. Once I realized (and accepted) that I shoot at least 99% of my rounds at a range I started buying restricted rifles to go with my handguns.

Think only the CZ858 has this defect. My FSN's trigger group is solid, no play in it whatsoever. Cheapest one on the market, too.

My buddy bought a CZ858 and was unlucky to have the sloppy trigger components and the gremlin. He had it fixed.

What is with all these AR'ed VZ/CZ's???

No one have any wood on them anymore???
