This .308 started out as:

and after spending a small fortune on parts, it looks like this:

This is the 2nd attempt at a shoulder stock and it still needs to be sanded, shaped and a butt plate added. It was made of 2 pieces of 19mm birch ply that were cut and shaped as halves before being laminated together.
I have a nice stick of cherry that needs to be plained down for it to fit in the ply jigs.

It still needs a front grip retainer and possibly a flash hider. Seeing how I don't want to notch the barrel for the front retainer I'm having a local company make something up.

I really hope this gives a FUDD a heart attack when hunting deer or at the range. :D

Dlask has completed my work request and at a really awesome price as well!

The barrel has been threaded for a flash hider (I found in Finland) and Joe has CNC'd a complete new bolt on front hand guard retainer (the big sliver thing).

The next step will be shaping the shoulder stock and sending it off to Armacoat for some sort of finish.

If anybody is looking for the front hand guard retainer Joe should have it up on his website or dead zombie.

Yes, I suck at taking pictures and my shop is a mess.

Back maybe 4-5 years ago (ish ?), someone briefly posted a summary of converting a 7.62x39 valment hunter back into a proper military rifle. Unfortunately the poster didn't want too much attention and took the pictures down. The thread disappeared into the mist in short order without pics. Cool stuff though.

If the rifle were mine, I'd be tempted to find a drum mag for that badboy and get a MG styled stock. M78 ala Red Dawn!

Classified as AK variant? Must be restricted or prohib?

No Sir.

The story I always read about the Valmets (someone correct me if I'm wrong) was the government had gave a bunch of them to the natives for hunting years before the gun laws went retarded.

So because Natives had them already in however many numbers, they couldn't prohibit them because god f**king forbid we offend a minority group......

So in completely logical government thinking, these became the only variant of the AK that could be owned non restricted and didn't magically walk around on their own at night and kill babies like all the other evil variants.....

If it's true it's a god damned shame that they didn't give the natives a whole whack of semi auto FN FAL's while they were at it :(

Yes, the irony of these being non-restricted is hilarious!!

For those that don't know, IWI bought stock Valmet parts right off the shelf to make the Galil.

Once this one is complete I'll look at converting one of my others to a Galil.

Aye, there are semi auto AK-47 variants in legal gun owners' hands (non restricted even!) and somehow the entire fabric of our ####ing society has not torn itself to shreds all around us.

But for politicians to acknowledge common sense that is right in front of their face is unheard of these days......

Yeah, it was that + they'd be banning something the government gave out earlier. Sort of ruins the credibility of the government. Which is laughable because using "credibility" and "Cretien's government" in the same sentence gives me a migraine.
