Absolutely, why shouldn't you be able to? Legally owned full automatics are never used in crimes, stats from Canada and the US support this claim.

With that said, I probably wouldn't own one with the above restrictions. If we lived in an ideal world and had no restrictions, I'd have full auto put onto every gun I could get it on when I bought it from the factory, but with those restrictions, I wouldn't bother. That doesn't mean I have the right to tell other people that they cannot do it, though.

Hey, I voted "maybe"! Mainly because I think it requires a degree of qualification or certification beyond the current firearms safety course. Does that make me red?

Not at all, in fact I agree with you.

In the military you are trained, checked out and then certified on new weapons systems beyond your basic training, same should apply here.

I am curious...how many here have actually fired fully automatic firearms or weapon systems?

I have, up to and including the M2HB.

I didn't say there was no difference.... I said if you can be trusted with one, you can be trusted with the other.

Explain the difference in owning a bolt action or a full auto?

Both are dangerous, if you can be trusted with one then you can be trusted with the other.

Both guns are designed to do different things.
It is alot easier to kill a bunch of people in a crowded space with full auto than with bolt action.
Plus most bolt action only have 5 rounds per magazine.
Fully automatic firearm is more dangerous than bolt action.

Full auto is pointless with 5 rounds restrictions or 10 rounds for ar15.

A Full Auto is not the same as a Semi Auto. Nor is a Semi Auto the same as a Bolt Action any more that a Honda Civic is the same as a ZR1 Corvette.
I would certainly not want my newly licensed 16 year old driving past the elementary school in a ZR1 Corvette any more than I would want my neighbors kid ripping past the elementary school in a Dodge Viper where my youngest walks to.

Supporters of "should be allowed to buy whatever I want" - I suspect you feel this way because you know and trust yourself enough that you can feel assured that nothing would ever happen beyond your control with your collection. Do you feel as secure about your dip-**** neighbor that mows his lawn at 6 am even after you have politely asked that he respects you are sleeping? The same alcoholic guy that screams at your kids for playing road hockey or throws rocks at your dog for barking - you are OK with him stockpiling fully automatic rifles and crates of ammunition next door? Are you really willing to be legally, morally and finically responsible when your house is broken into and your collection gets sold around to a bunch of little pot-heads that spend way too much time playing call of duty and not enough time working?

I give a lot of thought to my home being broken into and I would personally loose a lot of sleep if my safe were stolen and somebody's daughter were killed by that little a$$hole that was running around with my guns. I am far from an anti but I do believe there has to be some control. Look at the kind of people we share the road with every day . . . and they have been tested and have licenses.

OK, so you logic is..... an otherwise law abiding gun owner would go crazy and " kill a bunch of people in a crowded space" simply because he owned a full auto firearm.

So let me get this straight..... you believe that the VICTIM of a crime is responsible. So if someone steals a car, the owner of said car is responsible for what ever the thief does with it?

I voted yes. The cost to purchase one would be HUGE, the cost to operate one would be HUGE :)cool:) and Im sure avalibility would be limited or there would be a very long waiting list. But, I like the idea of having that option to purchase a FA ..... :ar15:

So your logic is saying that if full auto firearm is legal.. A law aiding gun owner would not go crazy and do a mass shooting?
Can you guarantee that won't happen? Wait, you can't.. Because there are cases of mass shooting with semi auto firearms already.
And who knows what a crazy person think like? For all I know he/she probably think auto fire guns kill people faster.

Treat them like a handgun, if you must restrict them at all. Personally, I wouldn't allow them for hunting, or having seen some of the stuff I've seen, shooting in the bush, also a familiarization course seems reasonable due to the number of misconceptions that exist about FA fire.

I agree 100% with what enefgee said!!!
I voted yes!!

I'd like to send a big ******** ! out to everyone who voted no. You are no better than the anti's. The pathetic mewling about how YOU don't see any reason to own full auto's therefore YOU don't think anyone else should be able to own one makes me want to hit you with something heavy.

Our society is not based on what YOU think other people should do with their money. Would like it for me to come into your home and decide what YOU should or should not have? Probably not, so why not pull your head out of your ass and give the rest of us the benefit of the doubt?

****, I was having a good day till I read this BS ...... :(
