The Type 97 with an already approved FRT number and classified as NON-Restricted will arrive early in 2013! The 5.56 variant with 18.7" barrels built in a semi-auto bullpub design will accept all standard AR mags and comes with standard open sights. Definitely good news to hear that these are finally making it into Canada. The only bullpup I've ever held is a Tavor and I didn't like the ergonomics at all so I'm not as excited as I would have been. For the price I might get one to see if I can learn to love the bullpup like others seem to.

The logical explanation would be that these are newly manufactured so that they can't be "easily converted to full auto". Also the T97As were in a restricted barrel length IIRC (with the main T97 being non-res).
