Do you mean 'Izzy'?
Was it difficult to remove the gold from the bayonet?
Did you refinish the stock?
Please tell me it was simply cleaned up, and the lighting is different.

yes it was just cleaned up. I removed the cosmoline by placing the stock near the fire place and cleaning it with Mineral Spirits over and over. I then gave it a light rub down with LSO. I removed the Gold tarnish by rubbing it with Mothers Mag and Aluminium Polish. Yes it is a Iggy. Auto spell check for you. It looks a lot nicer then the pictures show.

That gold 'Tarnish' is actually an anti corrosion coating that is sought after.
You just made it like the more common uncoated ones.

The main thing is, you are happy with it.
Out of curiosity, was the stock red like the picture when you got it, and how did it change so much?

I'm thinking the fact he wiped it over an over with mineral spirits removed the original shellac finish... then he coated it with BLO

Everyone should own an SKS! Props to Westrifle for supplying these wicked rifles. Looks like they're Russian too - so you KNOW it's legit.

Here is my Virgin 54 Izhevsk SKS from Westrifle. I didn't think never issued SKS existed. And I was told that by many people! The do exist :)

I ordered an SKS from wholesalesports 2 weeks ago, phoned wednesday to inquire as to shipping status, I was informed that they were out of stock and had been about to inform me...(but didnt). I was scared that I had now missed xmas.

I ordered an SKS from westrifle yesterday at around 11:00 am, received it this morning before 10:00 am. WOW way to go westrifle. Pics to follow.

Of course. It takes heat, and time. A bit of work, but not difficult.
He just made ours that much rarer.

Saw a vid youtube of cosmo removal.

Rather than field strip it, he repeatedly dunked the assembled rifle into a vat of some chemical. He says "the varnish is coming off the wood, but that's alright"

I found myself yelling at the screen NO IT'S NOT!!!
