Shorten PAL Approval Times

Did you request a file or extension # so your references could call in? And no, another ten days would be poopy! Im hoping to provide the necessary info to my references so they can call in when its convenient for them.

when it shows up online it will have a number like this xx-#########x-xx you need to use the 10 digits between the - - that's all, i believe there is a post at the beginning with all the info along with ext number

For those who are close to receiving their rpal I will give you my timelines. Trust me I was shocked. Took a few phone calls and persistence. Not sure if being a current pal holder makes a difference.

November 13-received documents at mirimichi
December 1st-showed online(yes on a Saturday)
December 6th-Myself and 1 reference called for interview
December 7th-had second reference called in for interview with reference number at extension listed above
December 7th-status online changed to license issued. (yes December 7th not a typo)

Documents received till licensed issued 25 days. So for those of you out there waiting here's hope. Lol!!!

Yeah i am sure being a current PAL helped as new applicants would require a mandatory 28 days waiting period, Congrats. great to have this forum and exchange tips and tricks found over the years lol!

Which is interesting because they told me I had to wait the 28 days as they treated it( my rpal ) as a new app. Obviously not. Regardless I was happy. By the way if your in BC. Get ready to wait almost as long for your transfer. Ugh!!!

I'm praying that's my case as well, would be be one hell of a great Christmas gift!

Thanks guys(and gal), I didn't realize the application number posted online was the magic number to give to my references.

I hear ya! i have one more reference to get his interview (told me he will call Monday or Tuesday at latest as he is in Jamaica) my 28 says is up on wed 19th, with luck I'll make the Friday printing :) Maybe Santa will be good to me, worse case i'll have for my bday

If you receive a letter for"additional info"ask them for their fax # and fax it.I just did this last week.Saves time over snail mail.

Hells yeah! Exactly 28 days for RPAL!

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Sweet, congrats. Be sure to call in to get your LTATT. Call the 1800 number and avoid going through BCCFO office. Got mine in 2 days as opposed to the apparent 5 weeks in you fax to the BC office

Good Stuff...now if the mail man can get over the Rockies and across the Strait of Georgia in a week you'll be smiling for Christmas.

We live on the Island, our status changed to issued on November 14th, my husbands was in our mailbox November 26th, so 7 full business days. They re-issued mine on November 29th and it was in our mailbox December 7th, so 6 full business days. When I called about mine not showing up with my husbands they said it had been mailed on November 16th, so that cuts it down to 6 business days. Here's hoping yours shows up that quickly!

Definitely call in to apply for your LTATT and have them email it to you, it's much quicker. I actually called in to apply for one before I received my license in the mail.
Then you just have to wait for the pesky transfer paperwork to go through. I did have a dealer tell me that if you already have an LTATT in place it can speed up the process..but it's likely to take 2 business weeks anyway :p At this point I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't be doing any shooting until the New Year. :(

Here's hoping that Canada Post is kind to you!

Good advice, thanks Karmadoc

I'm just called and a lady took my ATT application by phone...I scanned and emailed my VFGPA membership card and they will send me the ATT quickly. She would not give me my PAL #, I must wait for the mail.
As an aside I was told my R-PAL was not yet printed. It was issued last Friday and it will get printed over the next few days depending on workload. They apparently print every day so it depends how many people are in front of me which day mine will get mailed. I guess that's why is seems the post office takes so long delivering, the cards don't leave Miramichi as quickly as we might assume.

But I should have my Pal and ATT within the next week and a half...by New Year I hope

Good for you with the ATT! Are they going to email it to you? Also good to know that they don't necessarily print and mail RPAL's the day your status changes..disappointing but good to know. Here's hoping that your card shows up quickly! Then onto the purchase and transfer paperwork :p

Not sure 100% but from from i heard our application goes back to CFO in Ontario and they print. i will most likely get first week of new year:)

I don't know if she will email the ATT to me or not. I didn't bother to ask since my PAL has not been mailed yet. I doubt I'll be buying a pistol until I return from my winter RV trip south. But I can pick up my 1951 Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 Gauge stored in my friends place an get some clay shooting in before I go away. I don't want to buy a pistol and leave it lying around the house while I'm gone. I have not installed a safe yet but will do when I return. I just want everything in place before I leave.

So this is a little odd (normal odd, not CFC odd): Mine and my reference interviews were done about a week ago, and the status on the RCMP site says my licence has been issued, but I just received mail from the RCMP requesting more information. Why would they issue the licence if more information is required?
