Get Your AR15 While You Can: New AWB In the New Year

a total ban, even just on AR's, let alone semi autos, would likely see the states that are ALREADY trying to secede boil over, and while I doubt it would be civil war, I dont see them complying, not by along shot...
2nd amendmant protects all arms (even the newer stuff like AR's), just as the 1st protects all free speech (even the newer stuff like the internet, TV radio)

I don't know. Considering how the recent election went, the decreasing popularity of the GOP, the decreasing funding for the NRA, the dire state of the US economy etc, I see a population ready to roll over. And the spree kilings will continue, even when everything is restricted or illegal. But I'm sure they will be able to just scape goat something else as long as the actual killer isn't blamed.

Oh ya but the first amendment is cool tho, nobody was ever killed by a syllable or two. The second amendment tho is lost in history, not needed in this day of peace and good will even between govt's and the people they serve.

Don't worry , It's a media mistake. The AR never fired a bullet in Newtown.

Expect a Sig Sauer and a Glock Ban instead
"Police said the weapons used by the gunman were a handguns made by Sig Sauer and Glock. The police also found a Bushmaster .223 M4 carbine in Lanza's car that apparently was not used in the crime."

Well, the coroner was interviewd and gave the results of his findings, confirming that in fact an AR was used in the slayings.

Who wants to have a "Buy An AR15 Day"? Many could participate on the basic fact that lowers can be bought relatively cheap and they start you off in to the game.

I like this idea too, I can't afford another complete rifle but a nice inexpensive lower would work, and snice this all seems to be a numbers game I'd like to be 'counted' as one more voter they would have to alienate to ban them here.

Too late, they already want to ban assault rifles...of course they do not care about handguns...just assault rifle.

The unfortunate fact is an AR was used.

The gunman had been denied a AR purchase the week before (National Check turned him down) - but the mother had guns and those guns where used.

The fact that the gunman should have been already mentally institutionalized is not press worthy apparently, and the 'system' initially did work is not. That the guns where taken and the AR stolen in Oregon for that shooting earlier this week is another issue. What is totally being ignored is a CCW permit holder was present in Oregon, he did not shoot, but at least was seen as shortly after the perp ate his handgun.

My personal opinion is that we should arm teachers. Not make it mandatory, but offer training, and the option to carry.

Less guns in the hands of the law abiding populace is never a good thing, not for peace or security, or a democratic society.

More personal conjecture, Federal Firearms Licenses are Federal, regardless of what States due after a ban is moot, Manufacturers and Dealers will be forced to follow Federal laws less they run afoul of Federal law, and the Federal Enforcing Powers (ATF specifically in this case) - and after Ruby Ridge and the Branch Davidian compound in Waco Tx, no one really wants to run afoul of ATF.
Failing a full scale succession, which honestly a state like Texas could do (but that's another story), civil disobedience is not likely to break out, unless it is an extreme ban, as gun owners are generally law abiding and don't want to loose what little rights we have being problem children.

That said I bought my wife a S&W M&P9C for Christmas - for a carry gun to replace her Glock19, me I'm just hoping she bought me the M&P9 Core Pro before the shootings...

i dunno, if the ban is coming it wont be long before it's the same deal over here if not worse. i think your investments would be better spent on plumbing parts and bed springs if you want to keep yourself ready for the inevitable.

Expect a complete Semi-Auto ban (no grandfathering), or an addition of Semi-Auto weapons to an NFA (and see transfer taxes going to $2000).

Congress will not do it, so expect an Executive Order, he's run around congress more than any other President in the past (with just one term under his belt) the fact he has no re-election ability leads him to not caring about the Political future.

Make no illusions as to what is going to come.

Kevin,

Is that what those inside the industry realistically expect?
My guess (and I aint no Amazing Kreskin...) is that domestically (US) made guns would not be banned outright, but imports would be dramatically restricted.
This would not be the first time a safety issue was turned into protectionist bullchit. (Dlask Arms in Delta BC buys raw unfinished AR15 receivers from the US, but cannot sell them back into the US...)
I fully expect a ban on AK47 parts kits and complete guns being imported, just because of the name recognition.

I wonder also if a federal license scheme similar to the FAC/PAL will be coming as well. Safe storage may well be on the table too.

I would expect no less than full civil disobedience from your fellow US citizens if a complete, draconian semi-auto ban is in fact put in place by Obama via an EO, bypassing Congress.

Why?

Because if it can be done for this, I can be done for anything else. Perhaps it is time for another go at it.

As much as people fear it, it is more than likely nothing will happen. Democrats have been introducing AWBs every year since the original one expired and not a single one has come close to passing. The Republicans won't be talked into supporting one and there are quite a few democrats from free states that Obama will be hard pressed to get onboard.

Plus beyond the reactionism coming from this particular incident a majority of Americans want the same or looser gun laws. I would also be suprised if an AWB was upheld by the Supreme Court as it exists now. They rejected the banning of entire classes of guns when they rejected the handgun ban in DC and since the Dems keep insisting that "Assault Weapons" are a unique class of firearm on their own, banning them would probably also be ruled unconstitutional by the judges that currently sit on the Supreme Court bench. In fact I would like to see a constitutional challenge of the 1986 law that outlawed newly manufactured automatics, I think again with the Supreme Court as it is that law might even be in jepoardy.

The think that could happen though that would negativley impact the laws is if one of the conservative Supreme Court judges were to retire and Obama were to replace him with a psyco liberal. That would tip the balance to the Antis and could have severe reprecussions.

Thank you blaxsun! BenL I hear you but we have to start somewhere, the other side pushes in on our rights inch by inch every chance they get, unrelenting like hunting dogs circling a bear. I think we are often guilty of looking for the 'big win' rather than focusing on the little things we might do to push back even a little on an ongoing basis. Besides at the price of these there isn't that much to loose. :)
