Rossi Ranch Hand full-size stock G/B ~ UPDATE - Feb 15/2013

I just spoke to the shop, they've had some issues, guess the Rossi is slightly more canted than the Winchester pattern but they are hard at work getting these out to us.

They hope to be ready to start mailing them out in the next week or two.

Seemed like a genuinely nice guy that is simply swamped by our orders.

If they aren't shipping by the end of January I think we should all call him. Maybe he will understand how many people are losing patience.

Boomer has taken a lot of the heat and he can't be held responsible for anything other than the introduction.

I can give him a couple more weeks.

Tbrwlf, I totally agree with you, the order size went WAY up like 48 units up, it sounded like they're doing them in stages not one stock at a time. 40+ is a lot of work for one or two guys.

I think we are all being fairly patient. I agree that come end of January if they haven't been shipped we collectively should push a little more firmly.

Also none of this is on Boomer, he's done right by me, setting this up, keeping us updated. He should carry none of the blame

Push a little more firmly, like talk to the RCMP about fraud.
All I've heard are excuses.I paid upfront for 2 units, that was the 2nd week in September. If he can't handle it then start with some refunds.
And yeah I called and talked to Rich the 2nd week in Nov.
" We'll be shipping in two weeks "
Excuses are like :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:s, eveybody's got one.

I hope I am wrong but I am starting to get that bad feeeling.

I say this because I was one of the original group buy members who "showed good-faith and commited". I ordered the most basic option (unfinished, no extras) so if they are doing this in batches I would expect to be one of the first to receive their stocks.

We shall see but if Febuary rolls around and still nothing but platitudes of "another 2 weeks" I might be asking for a refund.

Klaus / tokguy - don't feel bad, he's had my gun & money since the middle of August... (bought my Rossi Aug 4th)

I managed to put 20rds thru it before I sent it off. Haven't seen it (except that 1 pic he sent with the rear stock fitted) since.

Is he a member here? If he is, maybe he should give us an update himself.

Like Boomer and Klaus, I sent my money early. I too only wanted the basic stock. Should not take this long. End of the month and no stock I think will end this for me.

He's a member here, and is RR. I too, sent off full payment for a basic unit in Aug. I'll hang back a while longer before gettin' pissed about it. I have numerous toys to load for in the meantime. A small shop
can easily get swamped with orders on goodies like these stocks.

I agree small shops can get swamped, but should not take 5 months when we were initially told ~6 weeks (for 12 units)...

But my Ranch Hand is my last gun (currently)... Sold my 2 restricteds, wanting a "special" rifle once funds are reaccumulated.

Just sent the only gun I had left in my possesion (Win 94) to my father for Xmas. :)

*he's fresh out of the hospital in this pic, after spending Xmas having an emergency gall-bladder removal.

I phoned today and had a nice little chat. I asked him if I could post some details from our conversation on here for everyone to read and he said to go ahead.

Apparently he has not been able to access CGN since the server change so this would explain the lack of communication if you are expecting him to answer PMs or post updates. He promptly returned my phone call (he was busy when I called) and knew the details of my order when he did so it would appear he is organized and on top of things. He apologizes to everyone for the delay and understands why people's patience is wearing a bit thin. Apparently the first run was ready to go on time but had issues and he did not want to send out a less than quality product so it was scrapped. He said that at one point he was tempted to just send everyone's money back.

The issues, IIRC, seem to be that the Rossi stock is not simply a cut down stock but specially made for the Ranchhand and adapted for firing with one hand (it has a cant to it?). Scaling it up revealed some problems. Also a regular 92 stock wouldn't work and he had to buy a 94 stock and make up a special template using pieces of the two. I may have the details on this last part confused; he gave me a lot of detailed information on the whole ordeal and it's a bit hard to remember it all. Another detail that sticks out in my memory is that the new machine that would carve two stocks at a time was more of a headache than a time saver and that if he had done each one at a time individually everyone would have had their stocks by now.

To sum it up the stocks should be ready quite soon and he was going to send some pics to Boomer to post in the meantime. After speaking with him I am prepared to wait a while longer. I only hope the quality will make it worth the delay.

I spoke with Rich today as well... Basically got the same story Klauss did, which I have a hard time believing.

He said something to the affect that, after making 4 dozen rear stocks he had to scrap them all because they were canted.

I find it odd that he had the rear mounted to my rifle in a picture dated Oct 3 / 2011, and only realized very recently (I had spoken with him in Nov/Dec) it was unacceptable ?

Again he promised that stocks would start shipping very shortly, and for people with outstanding balances (for upgrades) to please contact him via phone or email.

:(

I find it odd because some of us used stock Winchester full length stocks on our ranch hands with basic fitting.

I've seen warped wood that looked like it was canted.
I've tried a Rossi carbine stock on a Ranchand and the fit was a bit off around the tang but there was no cant issue. Why would Rossi try to do that? You don't know if someone is going to shoot left or right handed and it would just add cost and hassle to the production.
This stock maker seems a bit short on communication and long on excuses to me.....
