Is this normal? S&W 629 4.2"

yep, no kidding.
probably because he already knows the answer to the question, and still wants to sell it. Id cancel on that note myself.

Yea that about sums up what we discussed. I've pm'd Ryan (Chemist) again now to get a proper answer.

I'm personally hoping Murray will say "WTF?" after a few more received 629's and then get in touch with S&W to find out what the hell went on. Here's hoping.

For the record, I purchased mine from SFRC. I don't think the improper handling occurred at the dealers up here, due to the fact there are examples from different dealers. Considering how fast these were bought up, I doubt anyone at North Sylva had time to muck around with them either. That leaves poor QC at S&W as the most likely reason.

I just sent mine off to Murray this morning, so we'll see what he says about the corrosion. I guess I already know what the verdict is on the cylinder.

I just had email saying mine is shipped from SFRC, did they offer to refund or pay for shipping for warranty?

Mine is going out tomorrow. I just got word from SFRC that ALL the 4.2" 629's in their shipment have the peening damage. F**king sucks b@lls if you ask me.

Someone should send pictures of their cylinders to Smith and Wesson and ask what they think of the condition of the metal?

Well, i sold my gun to a guy locally. I told him the issues, showed him the extractor wobble, and mild peening. He inspected the gun himself. I told him mine was not the only one like this. However, that it was purely cosmetic, and would not affect the function of the gun. I sold it for 800 bux having never fired it. He also purchased all the ammo i had and the wood grips I ordered from hogue. He got a good deal. He is a member of gun nutz and can read this whole thread if he so wishes. So i wasnt off loading junk, as some may be bold enough to say.

I sent him a pm with a link to this thread as well.

The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, so I just couldnt look at the gun with the same fondness as i did. I'll never buy another smith product. There is another thread right now in gereral discussion where a guy bought a brand new smith 1911 that had issues, and he got the run around from North Sylva.

Seems Smith and Wesson QC is going down the tubes.

So the warranty people say there should be no peening damage and probably extractor wobble yet sfrc say this is normal?

OK. Thanks. This is my first S&W and I feel I've envisioned them as god-like creations.

When I saw her, finally, finally holding her in my hands... well, reality hit me hard and it was a little unpleaseant.

If a few more owners could chime in I'll be content.

I guess they are just shooters afterall ;)

I don't own an s&w but i would be sending this gun back no matter who manufactured it.Just my 2cents

Someone was sleeping at S&W Quality Control.Sounds like from reading this thread as more are showing up with these same issues S&W is going to be replacing a lot of cylinders. Wortners & Murry Charlton are going to be little busy as every cylinder will have to be hand fitted not good.

A "heads up" on new cylinders.

I was offered the option to 'buy' a new cylinder and pay for labour (whether this changes or not, we'll see), but, the really bad news is that it takes at least 3 months to go this route.
The fix I got was the quickest.

Bizarre situation indeed. This is clearly a S&W F-UP on an epic level!
S&W should seriously weigh in on this.

I'll shoot it a bit, then probably go the same route GunGuy34 went at a loss. EE it in a month or so.

At the end of the day if it shoots well and doesn't fall apart from shooting it's probably not that big of a deal......but it would be nice to hear S&W's explenation!

Talk about kicking someone when their down, so sh1t & w4nker will sell you crap and then give you the option to spend even more money to fix the crap.

Nice.

It'd be nice if someone took responsibility for this, instead of leaving a bunch of customers with sub-par revolvers.

I haven't contacted SFRC yet. I went straight to the S&W warranty shop in the hope that I'd get faster service.
