My factory hunting rifle shoots between .5"-.75" all day! Really? Prove it!

Congrats notsorichguy. I will add your Browning to the list in the original post. Sounds like you had quite a day. Unfortunately your 243 doesn't qualify for the challenge, but maybe next time you go out go for 5 shot groups and try for the varmint rifle challenge. It looks like it should be capable.

"Slag" is perhaps a bit more reaction than I intended ...I consider my tongue-in-cheek comment more of a "return sneer" to a few of the early posters who appeared to be suggesting that bench postions for factory hunting rifles were not really indicative of accuracy or ability...but have themselves not been posting successfull groups.
Regardless of what postion used to shoot, the guys that practice are likely to be among the best.
Wishing you the best for the weekend, and remember, THE WIND BLOWS 'EM TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE GROUP AS OFTEN AS IT BLOWS 'EM OUT.

Raspberry...... Or maybe tweak the nose would be a better descriptor.......

In any case the groups are up, I didn't do near as we'll as you did, but I dun got'er did!

Cheers!

In my books you get an A for the shooting, and an A+ for your determination in getting the job done. You are the poster boy for demonstrating the difference between a talker and a shooter. You are a shooter:) Welcome to the club!

I did not read the entire post - but the first part post with the rules stated "no heavy barrels". Is there the possibility of a challenge for my two prized - off the shelf - varmint rifles?

One is a Savage Predator Max and the other is my Remington SPS Vamint (I replaced the tupperware stock with a Hogue stock).

Check out the precision rifle forum. It has exactly what you are looking for. There is a heavy barrel/varmint rifle challenge.

OK, so I finally got a chance to get out and shoot a couple of my best shooting sporter rifles.

The first is a M700 Remington Classic chambered in 300 Savage. [totally factory, not bedded, but trigger adjusted]
My load is the 150 Hornady IL in a Dominion case, fired by the CCI 200 primer, with 45.0 grains of Reloder 15.
Scope is the excellent 6x42 Leupold.

Range is 100 meters.
Group sizes are:
#1 - .442"
#2 - .372"
#3 - .718" close call here, lol
#4 - .241" best group as pictured.
#5 - .611"
Average of all 5 groups - .447"

My apolgies for no range pics, but my camera did not like the cool weather, and refused to co-operate.
The front rest is a Sinclair, and the rear a Protektor rabbit ear type.

Pics below.

Second rifle is a M700 Classic also, but in 222 Remington.
It has been bedded and the trigger has been done.
The load is: WW case, Remington 6½ primer, 23.5 grains of Reloder 12, 50 grain V-Max Hornady.
Scope is a Leupold 12xAO.

Range is 100 meters.
Group sizes as follows:
#1 - .451"
#2 - .454"
#3 - .137" Best group as shown with calipers.
#4 - .315"
#5 - .204"
Average for 5 groups - .312" This is a ½" sporting rifle, I would say!

Same rests as the 300 Savage above.

I may try this rifle in the HB 5-shot thread to see if it will qualify.

Thanks, guys. I love my 222! [and my 300 Savage, of course!]
That 6x42 has never impaired this rifle at all.

I may have mentioned it before, but I shot a
witnessed 100M group with this 300 Savage
and the 150 Partition that measured .040"

The Partition actually shoots best in this rifle, but the
Hornady is so close that I felt disinclined to shoot the
more expensive bullet for this game.

It is a very nice chambering in that 700 Classic.
I have taken deer, black bear and one calf moose with it.

Regards, Eagleye.

Nice shooting Eagleye. I will add both of your rifles to the original post. The list is slowly getting longer. Congrats! You also have the new small average and small group.
