I have shot deer with my CZ858 and it works as well as any deer rig I have taken into the bush. Love the looks it gets too.

Thanks! Wasn't sure what was out there for this application.. I know a 223 is plenty for deer, especially a well placed shot. But I guess a bigger round would be best.
The only issue I would have with hunting deer with a .223 is the availability of appropriate bullets. There aren't many options out there other than varmint and FMJ.
I have taken my RFB and it is wonderful for packing through the bush. I've also taken deer with my m14. I've taken my Kriss Vector with me for deer with 200gr JHP handloads but I wouldn't consider taking a shot unless I was pretty close.
Any of the available non restricted black guns will do just fine provided you have an appropriate bullet and can actually hit where you are aiming.
Just keep in mind that like many things in life, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Only you know if your abilities to stalk and shoot are up to the task of making a humane kill with a firearm that will require you to get close and place a shot exactly where it needs to go.
Good luck

According to the regs I posted above, the under .275 restriction is only for hunting small game, not deer (or bear or moose). In most areas of southern Ontario, you may not use a rifle calibre larger than .275. 30 cals may only be used for target shooting in counties where this regulation applies. Consult your hunting regulations book.
You're allowed to hunt large game with any centre-fire cartridge in Ontario.
