I'd be curious what it weighs when you are done. I want a black rifle, but i have to be able to hunt with it. So far weight and money and the minister of finance are the only things stopping me. Oh, and the firearms laws that say i can't hunt with an AR.

I use my bubba'd sks as well complete with 25rnd mag (pinned) because I'm too lazy to swap it out during hunting season and to cheap to buy a 5 rnd promag. your normal Tapco'd, choate mount, bipod'd sks. works fine. A bit heavy
 
Have you tried finding a MR1? They can accept AR mags, which means you can get some LAR-10 mags. Plus the MR1 is pretty neat looking, and reliable
 
I agree with CR5 just because you can does not mean you should. why hunt deer with a coyote round? or even a pistol rnd? I have a firearm for every purpose, but 308 is the one I would choose plus less mess and no guess, I love the name tacticool/ lol
 
.275 is in effect just a bit north of me for deer and shotgun only just across the road and bow of course. more so for I think shooting beyond what you can see more than a humane thing.
 
a through and through with a .223 you will be tracking if you do not blow a knee out. it is not deer or larger game killer. like a 9mm vs, .45 getting hit with a mop handle and getting hit with baseball bat. a .22 will take a deer, but you are going to do alot of walking. I hunt yoties to moose and I still cannot figure anyone hunting deer with a .223?

I wouldn't hesitate to hunt deer with a .223 with handloads using a good bullet - a Partition or TSX maybe. High velocities do bad things to lightly built bullets.
 
siverado, I agree with you, but sounds like you know what you are talking about. anything can be used, but Practice and knowing ballistics is so important. How many people you know actually go to range and practice before hunting? It is so personal in what type of black rifle to hunt with as the options are as what you can afford. But even more important is what you are hunting, the round (cal) and how you hunt. If the firearm is for when SHTF. you want light .reliable. ammo has to be light which 223 is and accurate at Long range. So Off topic here. lol survival gun has to be 22 mag with a .410 . A cheap Fun Tacticool black gun, that you can add to my choice the M14 308 shorty. when done right looks bad ass, and I can group 3 at 300 , My gun gun at 500 yrds is my 7rem mag. I shoot allot and still need much practice beyond that.

I'm pretty sure .223 is the smallest center fire calibre you can use for big game in ontario. Ill have to look at the regs again but I sure wouldn't want to shoot a deer with my .204
 
I've killed a couple of deer with a bone stock sks. I used hornady SST bullets. Worked awesome. The rifle (in my hands at least) is just simply not accurate enough to take shots past 150 yards though.
