Non-Restricted Semi to hunt deer?

Thanks Fiddler, can'y believe it took 3 pages for somebody to mention an SVT. Will knock down anything in North America for $300 or under. Just hit it with the first shot, because after it fires anything in a 1 mile radius is going to **** off ASAP.

If you think about it 223 is meant to maim and 7.62 is mention to kill. Obviously shot placement and type of bullet (soft points) will make a big difference and distance to the target

its abit big an awkward to hunt with i think we need to cut em down a bit and bubbasporter em a bit

Ontario retailers must carry more variety than the Alberta since you can hunt with .223 there and we can't.
I'm sure it exists but it's very rare to see anything for medium game in .223 on the shelf here.

Not true at all. Federal makes 4 or 5 different types that are appropriate for medium deer sized game. Hornady makes a few too. These are just from two manufacturers, and what I can remember off the top of my head. There are plenty of other manufacturers that make fqactory .223 rounds for hunting deer. Your options more than double if you handload.

Now, if you had said that 10 years ago, I would have agreed with you.

I like the SKS idea, you can make it tactical looking for less coin. And when hunting season comes put the old stock back on, because we don't want to scare the other hunters!

Nice... I have one in 223... what kind of $$$ is it to have it converted to 300 blackout?

My deer gun - chambered in .300 blackout

The first deer hunting rifle I owned was a Swedish AG42B (6.5x55). The only time the semi auto part came in handy was when I was shooting at a wolf running across a field. Didn't have time to fire off 10 shots, but they were all misses.

Looking at the possibility of hunting deer in the future. I want a nice tacticool rifle to do it, but also I know that 556/223 isn't allowed (in Ontario anyways).. So I'm looking for something in the 6mm or more caliber which would put me in the .243 to .30 range, or 6mm to 7.62mm.. I'm cool with 6.5 grendel or 6.8mm as well.

Any advice from tacticool deer hunters here?

Thanks

Not true on the .223 in Ontario.

And it works just fine. I got a through and through shot, as well as blowing out the elbow of the front right leg.

And you could always use a CZ-858! :D

I find my XCR-M to be too front heavy to use for hunting. I will be using my RFB for hunting, it's very compact so it ont snag on every tree branch and shoulders like a 4 pound rifle.

XCR's are heavy. I am putting my -L in 6.8 on a diet. I installed a light aluminum vertical grip, a VCAS sling and am swapping out the UBR. Also, installing Magpul BUS (the back folds down low enough to clear the scope). Lastly, I am going to practice more open sight and only mount the scope for use at sunrise and sunset.
