Whats the story on the 9.3X62 in Canada?

Mauser98 - I completely agree with you on the compromises that we are forced to make. At least it seems for me with this rifle. C'est la vie. I will see what scoping it does for me.

medvedqc - You obviously fit your Zastava very well, and I wish I could say the same!

Chessburger that maybe not the design of the stock but the lenght of pull ..... if you bend your elbow and input the stock in where is your trigger finger? can you reach easily that part of the trigger?

do you have a long neck or short neck?

what is your experience with open sights?

all the best.

If I put the stock in the bend in my elbow I can just barely use the trigger comfortably. If it was any longer it would be too long. I have used iron sights on a .22 before I scoped it. So I'm not a complete newb with them but I don't have a world of experience with the either. I think I have a bit of a long neck.

So if you can barely reach the trigger with my exercise adds some layer and you ll get a picture about a very long LOP for you. the long neck is adding some not comfort zones ... i dont know who in Calgary can shorten your stock or change even for Mcmillan with your LOP will be another option.

keep the work your mauser worth it.

all the best.

Your stock would be great if it were a shotgun, but I think it's a little long for you in a rifle. You'll probably have some eye-relief problems when it comes time to put a scope on, meaning it might be difficult to mount the scope far enough to the rear.

I had one a few years back on an M-96, very light rifle with a plastic buttplate...was not so pleasant on the shoulder. I had it more out of curiousity. I did shoot some 270gr. speers pushed by BLC-2. Carried on a black bear hunt but never pulled the trigger on anything. I would likely do it again but on a different platform.

Just out of curiosity, what is the length of pull measured from the bow of the trigger to the center of the butt?

I knew this post was trouble the first time I opened it many pages ago! I made a deal on a 1950's Husky in 9.3x62 last night. Now to round up dies and components for when she arrives. I think that cast practice loads in this round would make for some fun shooting so I might start a thread on the reloading section for that. I sure do like the old Husky rifles.

You got a good deal there, I tried for that rifle but you beat me to it by one day and the ad was still up. Anybody else have a 98 action x62 they'd let go for a good price? That one was $450.

Blame this post for me buying the old Husky! I tried my best to resist... That will be my fourth Husky/FN '98 rifle and if it shoots as well as the others, it will be a great rifle. I plan to dress her up a bit with a better stock, rear sight and perhaps a barrel band front swivel. Trying to round up reloading components now so that I'll be ready for the Nova Scotia dangerous game season. :)

Wow, that's long for a factory rifle. It's like they were thinking about me when they designed that stock rather than the rest of the population that are decidedly shorter than me.

I also have need for rifles with a longer pull length, I am only 6' but I have fairly long arms. Adding a slipon recoil pad to most factory offering puts me in the right length. I usually end up placing a very thick pad on most of my rifles, and sometimes I can't get scopes far enough forward.

Fit in a rifle is very important to both comfort, and your ability to get on target and remain steady. It's one thing I won't compromise in a rifle, the fit.

the guys from that country and the ex-countries (where Zastava is made) are a little more over-tall trust me ....

Actually there not any taller than us Canadians , my parents were born in Romania which is beside ex Yugoslavia and some of them are shorter than us. I'm 6.1.' I was born here in Canada but I have romanian blood in me. Just saying average in Eastern Europe is around 5,10-6,'

The standard lop, out of the box, for most of these rifles is 350mm, some going as far as 365mm, simply because it's more convenient than carrying many stock sizes. It's a common practice (we can even say "tradition") for European gunsmiths to adjust the stock to customer's size.

if you have the chance to visit Beograd, Sarajevo, Zagreb or Ljubljana one day jusr report about the size ... 6.1 is really not tall at all

I just picked up a Husquvarna mauser 98 commercial in 9.3x62. Bore is like new. Really nice light weight stock. I got it for a very good deal at a local gun show. I but some weaver extended rings and a used wide angle redfield scope. Will head to the range soon. Will load 270gr speer bullets with IMR 4350 powder.
