Well after the year long hi power project, I picked up a new toy, initially was going to be a parts gun for a future purchase but I ended up acquiring some fines and debt I didnt expect. So it was off to the chalkbaord to see if I could make this one work for me. I picked this up on the EE a few weeks ago from saennor, one of the nicest CGN'ers I've had the pleasure in dealing with. The Mosquito had 2 cracks on each side of the slide probably due to poor quality material and the use of high velocity ammunition which seems to be what people use to make these things cycle properly. Sorry for poor quality pictures I took em with my iphone

First step was to find some material to use to back the slide, Ended up cutting down 1/4" wall anchors. I cant take any credit for cutting them up, All I did was draw the outline and my dad took care of the dremel.

Next step was to re align the cracks which I did buy pushing them outwars and ususing advanced super glue and pushing them back into the proper position while they dried, I used super glue because it isnt as thick as some adhesives and it got between the cracks nicely. Also after watching the video on mythbusters I was very impressed where they lift 600lbs with one drop, Youtube is full of crazy super glue videos.

Heres how the reinforcements looked on the slide

Next step was to scuff up the slide to provide the JB weld with a better holding surface

And then finally it was onto the JB weld itself, I didnt get any pics of the procedure. This is as far as I got yesterday. Bad picture I realize.

I have no idea if this is going to hold up not but its worth a try, I probably wont get to test fire it until tomorrow, And even then Iam expecting feeding issues as I will be using standard velocity ammo, And if thats the case I will modify the spring until it shoots the way I want. I'll keep you all updated! and I'll take some better pictures with it assembled when Iam home from work

If this works out it'll be a pretty trim fix. If not you'll need to get more structurally creative about providing more support to those lower rails from above.

Hmm - interesting. If it works, it might be pretty cool.

If it doesn't (and assuming that a replacement slide cannot be obtained), my fix would be as follows: remove glue, etc. Make cracks into V-shaped grooves (either with a milling machine, done by a competent machinist, or with a triangular file - slow, but effective). Have a competent welder TIG-weld the grooves full again with appropriate filler steel, then file back down to original profile. Re-finish as per original.

The process of welding, if done by someone who knows their business, would not be expensive, would be very strong, and would most likely relieve the stresses that caused the cracks in the first place, so they would not recur.

Just my humble opinion....

Well range update, Total failure. The parts my dad and I worked on held up just fine but the rest of the gun didn't, after about the 23rd round the slide broke right in half. Iam pretty bummed about it, mainly do to the work and effort we put into it. here is the pics.

Its a cheap pot metal, not really weldable

I was eyeballin that mosquito on the ee kinda glad I stayed away,so whats the plan now? Part out the gun? Lol

It still came with 4 mags that are worth more than I payed for the whole package, It was a parts gun to begin with and this was an experiment, which actually worked. So I think another one might be in the future, Cant afford one for a long time though :S

You're right- it did work, and I admire the thought and effort you put into it.
You'd think by now the aftermarket would have come up with an aluminum replacement slide.

Can't believe this POS has SIG written on it...

It's funny, because I had one that functioned great for the few thousand rounds I put through it. Only issue was the barrel would work loose and need to be tightened with a small retaining screw every couple hundred rounds. Accuracy would take a dive and you would know when it happened.

Other than that the gun ran great. Never had any issues. At all. I sold it a few years ago here and haven't heard about it since.

Regardless it is just like the P22 with the pot metal.

The new MP 22 is a hell of an upgrade, and mine was perfect in every way. I'm just more of a revolver guy, but I already kinda regret selling it.
