Another CZ vs Savage...................sorry

Except the stocks that come from boyds are a little bit different then the ones that come on savages from the factory. There have been a few posts about it in the past few years.

I know that. My point was that they come with solid Boyds stocks that are built by Boyds, for Savage.

Accuracy wise, can't tell whether I'm shooting my CZ452 Style, Varmint or Savage MkIIF and MKI-GY.

But IMO, the CZs have the best feel of any mid priced 22 rifle. I just love caressing mine. So if the only criteria are price and accuracy, buy the Savage.

If you are willing to pay a little more to own a gun you can love, buy a CZ.

Both of my Savage rimfires have the factory original stocks on them and they are both Boyds stocks.

The bottom rifle!!! That stock me want! I always wondered if savage made a rifle exactly like that! I couldn't look any more so I bought a BV! But would love that stock for my FVSR!

I was quite happy when I stumbled across that one. I love it. Very accurate and I really like the looks of it.

Guys and possibly gals, Thanks for all the replies on this thread. I think I am going with the Savage. With no distinct accuracy advantage the lesser cost will allow me to put better glass on top. Something in the $500.00 range. I am thinking of the Millett TRS in mil/mil. My other scopes are in the same units and I would like to keep the dial up units the same. The Falcon Menace With the B20 Mil line reticle is another option. Any other options that fit the mil/mil in FFP or SFP with tactical turrets for the $500.00 range plus or minus 50-100$ would be strongly looked at.

The base will be EGW 20 moa and burris tactical or signature rings.

Now all I have to do is have the two guys who want my 10/22 and 17HMR step up to help finance this.

Thanks again, Dino

So you've chosen to buy a VW with a good set of tires rather then a Porsche? Wouldn't you rather a better built rifle with a descent scope? Get the CZ and pick up a used Leupold and don't look back.

I kind of knew that this statement would appear before I even posted this thread as two camps always have opposing opinions. I do agree the CZ by design is nicer side by side. Its potential accuracy that I am after. After a great deal of research I didn't find an accuracy differential worth the hundreds of dollars. The following was cut and pasted from 6mmBr as the results of a 22 tactical precision match, I did an edit to eliminate the names not the standings.

First Place: Savage Mark II BTVS, Bushnell 5-15X Mildot
Second Place: Sako Finnfire, Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X
Third Place: Savage Mark II BTVS, Bushnell 3200 10X Mildot
Fourth Place: Ruger 10/22 (Green Mtn. Bbl.), Mueller 4.5-14X
Fifth Place: Anschütz model 1712 (Silhouette), Leupold 6-20

This says to me that knowing your gun and practice will often exceed superior equipment. I used to see guys whip my but on a motocross track with sub standard bikes. 80% rider and 20% bike is the ratio we used. I don't know if this translates into shooting or not.

Again thanks to all for your input.

That small sample size is not really indicative of anything except there were probably more Savage rifles in the shoot... don't get me wrong, I have a whole bunch of Savge rimfires and I like them... but head to head against Anschutz, day after day, they will come up short... but in your original comparison of Savage vs CZ, they compare well on paper targets... but not in "warm fuzzy feelings" when looking down at them in your hands.

The key word in your post being tactical. In this type of shoot, the shooters skills, at this type of competition, mean far more than the precision of the rifle that is being used. It isn't a true test of the rifles precision, so it shouldn't be used to judge the accuracy potential of those rifles.

All my savages that Ive had or have rust pretty easily as well I found. All my others (cooey, winchester, cz, cil) are fine under the same treatment.

I currently own 11 Savages and dont have a problem with rust on any of them. But then again, I take good care of all of my firearms. The only one I ever had rust problems on was a remington 700.

I have a friend who treats all his firearms with very little TLC. Uses them hard on the farm & stores them in a damp location. They all have rust from his Browning's to his Thompson's. He's the ideal candidate for stainless steel if there ever was one.

I don't think the VW vs Porsche comparison is accurate between the Savage & CZ. It's all a matter of taste, application and budget. CZ or Savage. Pick either and you'll be happy I'm sure. Better yet have both and every other brand and model made. That would be my dream. An entire room full of every modern gun made.:D

+1 for cz.
The arguement that the savages are so much cheaper doesn't hold any water unless you are going to purchase the lower end savages that come with a real POS plastic stock. By the time you put a decent stock on that savage or buy a model with a decent stock, the difference in price between it and a cz is pretty small, yet the difference in overall build quality is still pretty large. For example, the savage btvs is $459 at cabelas and the cz 455 is $519.
