Ar vs vz58

AR15 Pros
- Ergos
- Accessories
- Accuracy
- Good mags etc
- Mall Ninja Approved
- Easy to find ammo (except when gun control laws cause ammo hoarding)

VZ Pros
- Cheaper to buy both rifle and ammo
- Will go bang no matter what ammo you run
- More robust but less accurate especially at distance
- NON-FREAKING-RESTRICTED
- 7.62x39 packs more punch than .223

For me, its Red all the way now.
There are alot of options and accessories now for the VZ58 and more popping up each day.
Soon the gap in Ergos and options will be narrower as right now its pretty huge.
I will post pics of my new VZ58 once I have received the rails, bipod/foregrip, and flash hider. It wont be an AR but it will be pretty damn functional.

I run a VZ in 5.56 with a few goodies (rails, flash hider, ACE stock, etc). I went from an AR to the VZ, and now I'm building another AR. Range only use is annoying, but AR's are just excellent guns. Since it is restricted anyways I'm building an 11.5". Very maneuverable, excellent ergonomics, and simple for mounting optics. I may go down the road of the receiver cover scope rail for the VZ, but I just wish it had a full length upper rail. Also, I wish it was designed for AR mags from the factory. I have a gen 1 adapter, and I'm on my second unit now (broke the first one - have been pretty easy on it since). I really should run it with factory mags, but they seem to be hard to find (and I have a stash of AR mags).

The two things that attracted me to the VZ were the lowish cost of entry and the fact that it is non restricted. I have about 1500 rounds through it, and I'm on the fence with it. After my house is built I'll probably go the Tavor or FS2000 route. That way I get something shorter for getting in and out of the truck while I'm out looking for coyotes and groundhogs. It really is too bad that there isn't much for rifles between the VZ and XCR for pricing (in terms of non restricted).

Vz58: superior to the Ak because it CAN hit the side of a barn.

I've been trying to work out what an AR can do that this can not. Can't think of anything !

Release the bolt with a button (not by racking the charging handle)?

edit to add - also run your choice of BUIS (the stock sights are killing me slowly)?

edit to add again - change the barrel easily if you want to try 300 BLK?

edited one final time - run pmags/lancers? Can't with my gen 1 adapter. Too tight.

Run optics.

I mean actually have useful optics.

Try to make a night vision setup work on a Vz platform.

lol how many of us have a reason to have a "useful" night vision set up? I guess that just dosnt really play into my decision when I purchase a gun. But that's just one guys opinion. I'd lean towards the VZ simply because its non restricted. Unless you live in an urban area, and plan to shoot at a range regardless, you'll get more uses out of the VZ platform.
