Walmart this afternoon had nothing but empty shelf space for 22lr except for a small stack of Win crap single boxes. I inspected it well in the 20 minutes I waited to get someone to open up and get me my 12g slugs. And yes, I bought BOTH boxes :O

Was in Cabela's today and it was the worst levels yet - by far!

22lr is dwindling fast at Cabela's in Edmonton.

that top shelf that you've seen me post pictures of online is now no longer for 22lr. It's stuffed with various other things. There are now only three boxes (cases) of federal bulk, down to maybe 10-12 wildcats. No federal ammo cans. No CCI minimags either in bulk or in tray form.

When they take away shelf space from the 22lr - especially such a massive, giant shelf - right before the beginning of prairie dog season, there's a problem.

Just saw an advertisement from Fishing World in Hamilton. They have Blaser 22, at $22 each, but limit of one brick per person.

A couple months ago (January), they were selling full cases (5000) for $200

FWIW, high end target 22 ammo is getting bought up in bulk in the U.S. it too is disappearing at over $1250 a case, ouch. who's buying?

The high end 22 match ammo is commonly 5-7 times the price of regular run ammo. The technicals and quality control standards are much thighter. This kind of quality doesn't come cheaply.

I buy high end 22 ammo, it typically is not in short supply, now it is which is a bit alarming since it does cost 5-7 times the price of regular ammo.

My CT got an ammo shipment today...if thats what you can call it. It consisted of 2 20rd boxes of American Eagle .223, 2 525rd bricks of CCI Blazer .22, and 200rd of CCI MiniMag .22, that was it, not much of a shipment.

I noticed my CT was restocked on most 22lr as well. No idea if it was the usual 2 of each or more. Im sure it will be obvious soon if that is the case.

I was at my local CT store tonight to get the last two boxes of CCI Blazer .22 when an American Couple from Alaska came over............Look honey, they have ammo here, don't see that in Alaska!

While we have a good local stock of ammo, the cabinet seems very slow to restock some slots have been removed and most of the .22 bulk is gone. Alaskans like their guns and ammo, so if they are out, well then its a general consensus in the north that there is a need to stock up on a few items that may not come around for a while!

It must be getting real bad in western canada is it. My bud is driving back to Sask and had quite a load he picked up here locally for the boys he works with in sask. They called with lists
Doesn't move as fast down here with the number of shooters we have but seeing some items now getting hard to find also.

Stopped by my local CT today and the cabinet has been fully restocked. Lots of bricks of Blazer, Wildcat, the usual Winchester crap, and filled with 50 and 100 round packs of minimags, yellowjackets, hornady's etc. etc. Shipments are definitely coming in. Relax, everybody. Quit buying ammo until my PAL comes in! :)

So....... If this is because DHS is stockpiling 16 billion in ammo, Does that mean that when the crap doesn't hit the fan, there will be boatloads of cheap, readily available American surplus ammo to be had in say 10 years? :D

The DHS is not stockpiling 16 billion rounds, and rumours like that are what is driving the fear-mongering and hoarding.

Before the end of summer is here, not 10 years, I will bet you the "shortage" will be an "over supply".

A lot of the DHS numbers are from people who don't know basic math.

If they buy 250,000 "units" or ammunition and the price is "per 1000 units" how many rounds of ammo did they buy? Grade 4 math would say 250,000 rounds of ammo. Fear mongers in the US say 250,000,000 because they are multiplying numbers without looking at what those numbers mean.

Everywhere I've looked online is talking about stores receiving shipments of ammo that are somewhat smaller than the shipments they received previously but they are selling much MUCH faster than before due to hoarding. Stores that would sell 2-3 AR-15's a week are instead selling all 20 they have in stock in two days. It's the regular consumers causing the panic and hoarding, not any government organization.

it may be hoarding, problem is many new buyers on on the scene and now hoarding, so its only going to get worse, especially after todays vote in Washington, slowly gun bans, mags bans and ammo bans will arrive in the U.S. the current group of politicians and judges are much like those in Canada, Australia and England. The folks shouldn't be armed, period, only the police should, thats the mentality and its NOT going to change. America is still in a position where the folks can and will do something about it, which is buy while they still can. Nothing wrong with that either, nothing, hoarding is good for all the folks doing it.
