Where are all the SKS's ? Shopping for one

I am going to let my wife and only my wife shoot the 49 . ( not even me) it is a refurbish so what harm can be done!

I still wouldn't shoot my 1949, they are the rarest of all the SKS's. They are around but there was supposedly only 60,000 total built. If you read the sticky in the top of the red rifles section it will give you piles of info, pay particular attention to the collectible area.

-Shooter's grade: May or may not be matching but definitely refurbished.
Most SKS45 were in service at one time or another as a second line rifle and some were loaned out to other countries. Therefore, majority of the SKS45 in existence are refurbished. Refurbished SKS is not a bad thing, matter of fact the heavier the refurbishment the better because more of the old parts were replaced. Eg: A lightly used SKS45 would not have the barrel replaced where as a well used one would have a complete overhaul, including replacing the barrel.
They are also good value at $200, about 30% less than a non-refurbs, these are great shooters for those who are not interested in collecting and enjoy shooting their rifles. Shooting a refurb won’t depreciate the value much.

-Collector's grade: Are all matching, could be refurbished in very good condition. If the majority of the SKS45 are refurbished, then non-refurbs are uncommon, they are collector's items. You could shoot the used non-refurbs ones but i definitely not recommend you shoot the rare un-issued ones, those fetch a much higher price. Shooting one of those will have a negative impact on the value.

"-Collectibles: The following collectibles are in the order of value. I do not recommend you shoot the top 2.
1. Made in 1949, in any condition. It’s the most sought after, extremely rare and valuable because it’s the first year of production and also has unique features that are not found in other SKS today.
2. Un-issued in mint condition. my definition is from the factory to storage, never been issued to the troops.
3. Non-refurb and matching in excellent condition.
4. Refurb and matching in very good condition.
5. Refurb and forced matching in very good condition."

And yet there is only one of my wife!! Not trying to be rude, but I do not understand why you would own a rifle/ gun and not use it. As long as you don't abuse it , shouldn't be a problem!

I hear and respect what you are saying Jonny... Make sure to really really clean out the barrel on that 49, the early years barrels were not chrome lined so the corrosive ammo can do even more damage very quickly if left! On another note, do you wanna sell your 4 safe queen SVT40's you were mentioning in another thread if rifles should be shot.....why keep them if your not gonna shoot them

Cheers

Sorry OP for hijacking your thread :)

When did u find a sks there for $150? They have it priced at $199 when I look.

Just prior to Christmas, they had a one week sale. I picked 3 and two crates of ammo for under 1k lol

That ammo is actually corrosive.

It's not all corrosive. Dirty ? yes, but corrosive ? ...Lets just says its a grey area. At least based on all of my tests.

Lots of people have posted that the 'non-Corrosive" is in fact corrosive ammo.

I believe it is mixed Corrosive and non corrosive. Best to it treat as such.

I did bright nail tests which showed NC. Ran it through one gun and cleaned as if it were corrosive and the other as if it were not - 5 Months later, they both look the same.
However, I am back to cleaning it as if it were all corrosive. I happen to enjoy the cleaning nearly as much as the shooting :)
