Shorten PAL Approval Times

My application hasn't even been put into the online system yet, and I mailed it on the 28th of March. I'm starting to get pretty pissed. It better have not got lost in the mail, it has a money order in it and everything.

It was worth the $10 registered mail fee for me just so I wouldn't have to sit and wonder if it even arrived. I knew the moment it arrived. I can't recommend it enough for all applicants to spend the $10 and have it sent registered.

I sent mine Registered mail. It only showed accepted at the post office online every time I checked. After a month, I called Canada Post to inquire about it. They said they would look into it. Well, not long after that, my application showed in progress on the RCMP site. I called C Post again and they apologized and said they'd check into it again. Last week, they sent me a refund cheque for the letter. Friday, they left a message on my phone apologizing again. So, even though it got to Miramichi, C. Post doesn't even know it, go figure.

I have one minor pot conviction that is more than 20 years old. Nothing violent, no weapon offenses at all. Although my brother (who lives in same Apt. building as me, not same apt) does have a violent past. (no he will not even see my guns, I barely see him as it is)

Would either of these hamper my application. (I haven't sent it in yet, just completed the PAL course tonight) I got 98% of the written & 100% on the visual tests. Would it make a difference to send my application in via overnight courier??

Well I'm about to give up. Completely discouraged!
It has been 8 weeks and I haven't got my course results back.
Course March 9/10, Instructor said he mailed the results to the CFO (Ontario) on the 12th.
I submitted my application March 14th. It is online and 'in process'. Got a letter stating missing information - Course results. They said they won't do the interviews until they get those.
I have called the CFO three times now....last week she said the standard response of "we are running 4 to 6 weeks" I said ok, how does that work because I'm 8 weeks now....."uuuuhhhh not sure, very hard to look into it as it is a manual process". She took my name and instructor's name but no contact information, said she would try to look into it. I will never know because she doesn't have my phone number to let me know.
I made a complaint to the Ombudsman last week. I have been in contact with them about my story and they said they will be looking into it. They said they get numerous complaints about the CFO about transfer times but never had one about this issue.
Don't know what else to do. Maybe get a copy of my results from the instructor and resend them to the CFO?

Just venting, and ready to give up.

Wow I was really lucky I guess. Passed my courses/tests on April 26th-27th and got my results May 6th and 8th in Quebec though.

Don't give up, that's what they want. Definitely get a hold of a supervisor or something if you can, and involving the instructor may be a good idea too, as you mentioned. There's definitely something wrong there, mine took 5 weeks and I thought that was a long time.

Well I finally finished my application and sent it off. Went to Canada Post, sent it Priority Registered, cost $37 but at least I can track it and they have to sign for it. I sent in all forms and course material required, checked about 10x to make sure it was all in the envelope. I guess I'll start the ticker and see what happens. To be fair I won't count day one until the letter arrives. According to Canada Post the letter will arrive no later than Wednesday. Fingers crossed......

OK, another update from ONTARIO CFO.
They have to get all the renewals with waived fees done by this Friday, so that means, they will not look into upgrades or new applicants until after the 17th. Whether this is true or not, I do not know.

ok, so after calling to the CFO a few times I cordially requested to be transferred to the CFO Ontario Office, a lady picked up the phone and told they have a back log,bla bla bla bla. Whatever, I cordially ask her what is the ONTARIO extension number and she gave it to me.
So if you are waiting for the CFO approval (Ontario) this is the phone number and extension you need:

1 800 731 4000 ext 117503

You don't get this information very often so use it wisely and please don't tell them you read it on the internet, it's not there and you are not supposed to have their number.

Were you able to get your application passed through after calling the Ontario CFO? I was thinking of doing that but not sure if they would do anything.
And I believe that's the same extension you can get off their website. Not sure why there is extra "11" in the extension.

"They" now know. "They" navigate this website.

the 1 and 1 are menu options.
He looked at his phone to get the digits entered. He would have seen 1 800 731 4000 1 1 7503

So here is my timeline.
Course complete March 24.
Mailed rpal application without course results on March 26th and received on March 28.
Application showed up online around April 22, saying missing information and they would contact me.
After almost 7 weeks I received my course results in installments. First I got my restricted results on May 3rd and then my non-restricted results came in on May 8. I fax it the same evening without wasting anytime. I called them on May 10 to see if they have received the results but they said they cant see it and to call back on May 14th.. I called them today May 13 and my results were scanned, they then transferred me to get my interview done, after my interview was done I call both my reference and get them to call in right away... They both call in and get the interviews done.. I just checked the status online and it says license has been issued :)... so in total it took me 46 days. It could have been faster if the results were mailed on time and together, but anyways I'm looking forward when the mail arrives.

Of course not, they insisted that once they are done with the renewals (which should be done by the 17th of this month) they will get into all the rest (new applicants and upgrades) So there is that.

In regards to the 11 after the extension, the 11 corresponds to leguange and something else. And yes, it is the same extension number that is shown on the link posted above. One thing though, the first person you speak with is an operator, the operator will transfer you from there so do not bother giving her your app #.

Calling that extension will take you to the Ontario CFO, the difference is that they will give you a real UPDATE of what is going on in their office. Calling the 4000 number is like calling to a receptionist, and they will only tell you what they tell everybody.
Hope that helps.

Ok after my little rant today. I get home and my exam results are in finally after 8 weeks. Now I'm sure I read this previously but will ask the question. I only received two copies of my restricted - nothing for my non-restricted. Do I have to wait for those now too?
Thanks.

Yes you have to wait for your non-restricted results before you send them in.. The same thing happened to me.. You will get your non-restricted results within a week or so.

Thanks for the update, I'll try calling the Ontario CFO tomorrow and see if I get the same response about them doing renewals until the 17th of June and post back.
