So after months of waiting the LGS calls and says I have a package to pick up. I had almost forgotten about the UTAS UTS-15 I put on pre-order with them many months ago. I check it out, looks solid so I take her home. A shooting buddy wanted to come over and check out another rifle, so we get looking at the UTAS and decide to give it a function test.
So I grab some Winchester 2 3/4" slugs, a box of 15 seems right because the gun holds 15.
I could only get 6 rounds in each magazine and that includes the one you leave behind the loading door, so it only holds 12 +1 of these shells.
So I load the first round in and rack it out, good strong ejection.
2nd and 3rd and 4th......on the fifth round, the bolt unlocked and went rearward about 1/2" and locked up solid, I gave the slide another try, nothing! Several more tries and now I am debating if I have to take this gun back to the LGS with a round in the chamber. So maybe gravity can help, held vertically and on one knee, buttstock into deck while racking, 5 times and hard to get the round free of the chamber.
Give it another try cycling some ammo, now it will not eject, the round just sits there. So I clear all the ammo out, then load only 2 rounds into the left magazine, it will now eject but the second round jams up solid in the chamber like before?
I gave the gun a third chance and was further rewarded with stuck rounds, rounds not ejecting.............Noticed the cycled rounds that the plastic hulls are all beat up, some with long lines of scaring.......
I rounded up my trusty Mossberg from like 26 years ago, its a 500A that has never been cleaned, loaded up the same rounds, and cycled them all through the gun smooth as butter! Same for my Rem 870 Tactical, and my Benelli Supernova.....Not one issue.
I'm not saying the UTAS can't be a good gun, just that I seem to have gotten a lemon and it seems from reviews to have several issues that need to be addressed prior to calling it a "Tactical Shotgun".
I will be returning this shotgun to the store where I bought it and will be looking for something else. Too bad because I really liked the look of this shotgun. Very disappointed in UTAS.
