Best Bolt Action 223 in the $600-$1000 group (VALUE)

Tikka T3 Lite Stainless $800+tx has a 1:8 twist, great for heavier .223 and a tack driver straight out of the box.

Any of the Savage model 10's that suit your fancy would be a great choice. I'm on the 3rd one I've owned and all were very accurate with hand loads right out of the box. Most models seem to run around $700 and up from forum sponsors.

looks like the cz varmint has a 1-9 twist which won't be good for bullets heavier than 70gn. If you wan't to shoot the 70-90gn pills I would consider a savage 12 VLP DBM as seen below;

The savage is a hair just below $1000 at wholesale

I had a remington sps in 223 with 1-9 and it was awesome for the 55 gn noslers but wouldn't shoot 77 gn bergers at all.

My 223 is a 1:9 and wont shoot 55gr well but form the 36, 40, 50, 53, 60, 68, and 77gr bullets all shoot well

I had a Remington 700 SPS Tactical that I used to shoot Norinco 556 ammo with. Accuracy wasn't terrible (2-3 MOA) but at least 1 in 5 rounds resulted in a light primer strike. The military grade primers were too hard for reliable use in the rifle.

Thanks, I wonder if this is common with other rifles..

Anyone try 556 AMMO in their guns ? what were the results ?

I"ve been using the norinco spam can stuff in my cz. I get the odd flier, but 85% of it is pretty good. Shoots within about an inch at 100 yards. I bought it for the brass to reload anyways. I also get the odd one where the primer doesn't fire, and I pulled the bullet, reprimed the case, and put it back together again. And it fires... I think I had 7-8 misfires out of about 300 shots taken so far.
In my gun, the norinco shot an inch higher than the federal stuff did. For factory ammo, federal 55gr seemed to work the best.

The Tikka rifles are bar none the BEST value I this price range. I have had a Remington 700 SPS, A Savage 111, A savage 12FV, A Remington 799, and now a Tikka. The trigger is the best by far, and it shoots just over half inch groups all day long with my hand loads (75 Gr A-max and IMR-4064). I have went through all these rifles, and the Tikka is the best by a long shot.

My bolt gun is a Savage Precision 10 Carbine. Great with Hornady 55gr. V-Max factory ammo, an absolute laser with 53gr. V-Max reloads in front of the right dose of Varget and CCI BR4 primers. An honest 1" shooter with that Hornady factory stuff though. Were I to go down the same route today...that FN rifle would sure get serious consideration, but so would a CZ 527 Varmint.

Any experience with a Savage 12 BTCSS thumbhole.. ?? Anyone..

If the gun had Rust, it got wet. Period. Tikka rifles don't just suddenly rust. Sheesh.

Any gun can rust if not protected by oil even in 0% humidity and with no contact with water. The oxygen needed to convert iron to iron oxide can come from the air or from water. That being said rust on a firearm is the result of poor maintiance.

I do find Tikka's have a rather thin layer of bluing, doesn't make them a bad gun.
