1978 Colt 1911A1 Government Model

78Colt-1.jpg

This is one of the nicest Colt's I've ever had my hands on. Mine is a '79 model, unfired. I need another one so I can actually shoot it haha. Matched up with an older .22 conversion unit here.

That's what am thinking as well on my Colt USMC m45cqb thinking of getting a 2nd one so I can shoot the other one.

My recently acquired Norc 1911A1, picked up off a WTB ad in the EE. It is one of the ones from the Can Am Norc 1911A1 1K ammo deals.

No "Norinco" or "Made in China" markings. Just the serial number on the right side of the frame and "1911A1 .45" on the left side of the slide.

I detail stripped 'er & cleaned off all the factory gunk. Reassembled with a light oil on metal parts that touch.

Stock grips are very brittle, in fact the right grip broke on 3 when I undid the grip screw on diassembly. I had indended to junk the factory grips anyway, so that was not a surprise or concern. Upon reassemble I installed a set of real USGI 1911A1 replacement grips [from my parts box]. I wanted the "old school" look.

Was pretty greasy when it came out of the factory bag:

All cleaned up, reassembled with a set of USGI 1911A1 replacement grips to maintain that "old school" 1911A1 look:

All ready for a range trip now.

Looks nice now..grips give it that old school look

I caved and ordered this deal last Tuesday (without telling the missus, so I’m really on her $hitlist right now), Canada Ammo confirmed the order on Wednesday, I called the CFO on Friday morning, and Canada Ammo shipped it that afternoon. I went to pick it up on Monday afternoon, after work. That was probably the fastest I ever got a transfer of a pistol from the retailer into my greedy little hands.

Swapped out the factory Norinco grips for the ones that game on my GSG 1911.
