G'day Everyone

Anyone know where someone can get a bare 1911 frame to build up into my own custom 1911?

Need a government size frame (looking to build a 357sig). Yes I know it's sacrilege but I already own a 1911 in 45 and 9mm.

Have already talked to a couple site sponsors with no luck (so far).

Thanks in advance.

In a perfect world the canam deal would be ideal, except of course that in my crazy screwed up world it doesn't.

I'm injured (badly pinched nerve in my neck) and cannot do any shooting for the foreseeable future (Next summer perhaps, if I'm lucky).

Have 450 rounds of 45acp sitting already with powder, primers, bullets, brass for all my calibers (9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 10mm, 45 Colt, 454 Casull) either loaded or sitting waiting. Reloading right now puts too much stress on my neck/shoulders and hurts like a #####.

That's where a project gun comes in. Pick up a bare frame, hone all the edges, hand-fit all the parts of the next many months and boom, another 1911 in a new caliber (357sig). Maybe I'll even fit a 40 barrel, 10mm barrel and 9X25 barrel to it. Right now I'm starting with the 357sig as a start.

So having spilled my guts, so to speak, all I need right now is a frame.

Emailed with Gunnar today and all he has are norc commander frames and a used old colt frame drilled for a scope. Neither one I'm fond of right now for this project I have in my head.

Later..............

I emailed dlask about frames as well. Waiting to hear back. Saw that he removed the frame kits from his website though so I'm not holding out hope for that. Really looking for a norc frame so I'll have some real honing and fitting work.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

freedom ventures will have STI frames

They have the regular, forged and master series. Well its custom order but you get the idea.

You could get the Norinco but the amount of time and money spent on it will even out in the end.

PS: Dlask sources their frames from CanStar, lots of horror stories about Canstar if you search.

I haven't checked their website lately but a couple of years ago Marstar was selling stripped Norinco frames for $100 ea. I bought 4 of them and they even had the grip screw bushings installed.

Worth a look (or call).

1911 Bare Frames

They come up in the EE from time to time, too....

A couple years back I scored this bone stock Springfield Armoury 1911A1 GI bare frame off the EE:

Completed it with spare parts on hand from the parts box [nothing fancy]:

Use it as a 'bottom' for a Colt .22 unit:

But also have a Colt S70 top-end for it, too:

Always a fun project, putting together a functional 1911/1911A1 from parts.

NAA.

Finding some frames. Thanks for all the leads. Most leads are leading me towards a lot more money than I want to spend though. Really need a norc frame.

I might add that this is my first build from scratch and I expect a learning curve that if I screw up I don't have to worry about ruining a $300-400 frame.

I'll keep looking.

Thanks everyone.

True, but it looks really beat up bad. That front strap is really rough too. If push comes to shove I'll cough up the extra and buy the Caspian before that one. Still going to look for a good norc frame first. I have a few feelers out their and I'm waiting to hear from Milarm about there stock.

Still looking..........
