US Military to purchase 2.5 Million rounds of Russian 7.62 x 39 mm ball ammo

U.S. Armed Forces do NOT use this caliber. I wonder if they're being directed to dry up domestic supplies of commie ammo, or, are they getting ready to supply their old Al-Qaeda bagmen to kill Christians in Syria... I anticipate they will use their monopoly money to buy up other types of 7.62 x 39mm as well as certain rifles. Sad times we live in. Stock up now if you can afford to.

Yes, sad times indeed

Fear monger much? As others have said, 2.5 million rounds for the U.S. Military is pocket change.

Agreed

Lots of AKs in the CF used for training, 2.5million rds is not alot and am sure CGNs shoot more then that in a year

It follows a trend, 1.6 Billion rounds bought by the US federal government in the last year, those purchases from non-military federal agencies. This latest purchase is essentially civilian rounds in North America, not a caliber the US military uses, not a NATO round. The US Armed Forces use .223 and 5.56 mainly, anyone heard of an ammo shortage to our south or is that just more "conspiracy" too? I really believe the days of getting 7.62 x 39mm affordably are numbered if they're able to start doing this across the board... Only a matter of time really.

Okay, 2,5 Megarounds is plus or minus 2.000 crates of the stuff (depending on which crates).

That won't fill a container load, and it sounds like around one shipment that a place like Canada Ammo would bring in.

Do you have any idea *how much* of this is out there (and still being made)?

That 1.6 billion contract is not to be delivered all at once, it is meant to be delivered over many years... If anything, it makes sense for them to buy in huge bulk amounts. It's just like the sponsors here at CGN: the more you buy, the more you save. Had they been buying these 1.6 billions rounds order by order, it would have costed a metric smackton. As for your other point, I believe the bulk of it is .40... hardly a "civilian" caliber.

As others have said, the 7.62x39 thing is pretty common. You're just hearing about it THIS time.

While being cautious is good, you sometimes have to take off the tinfoil hat and do research, instead of coming to a hasty conclusion. Weirdly enough, this (hasty conclusions) is what the people referred to as "antis" do with us.

Here's some food for thought. Why on earth would the US military be buying up the 20 to 30 year old stocks of military surplus ammo that a far lesser military has deemed unfit for use? This will more than likely be new manufacture, if they end up stockpiling oodles of it, it has a chance of becoming military surplus down the road.

It's already been in the news that congress has been doing whatever it is they need to do to clear el presidente for providing support to the rebels in Syria. At least according to popular state run media.

Surplus =\= unfit for use.

The reason you buy it is the same reason they do: price.

For what? Testing purposes? Trying to make body armour that will stand up to it?
For sale to other countries? As planted evidence at firearms raid crime scenes? All of the above?

Ya'll haven't been listening.

Every self-respecting 1st world military has a room somewhere filled with foreign firearms for training purposes. This is not special forces stuff folks: any member of the military can go trough foreign firearms training.

It so turns out that most of the world is/at some point was using AKs. While the US military does not use the AK, they have enough of them in a room somewhere to arm a small military force. Training with them is essential; knowing the difference between a 7.62x39 crack and a 5.56 one may mean one less blue on blue incident. Not to mention that it's good to know how to work them just in case, considering the people they are training are using AKs and are vaguely incompetent at doing so.

Not to mention the little ignored fact that the US has whole companies/batalions that are dedicated enemy force. And guess what they use? Thats right commi weapons and ammo.

But sure lets go with buying 2.5 millions rounds is a secret conspiracy to dry up the civi market (which btw consists of billions of rounds)

Seems like you cannot differentiate reality from fiction. I blame Hollywood for that. I will use a scene from a movie as an instructional aid, it might fit your vision of reality.

forgive the ad.

I keep hearing stuff like this from gun shop owners... "You'd better buy this surplus now, 'cause I hear the military is buying elebenty-million rounds and the supply is gonna DRY UP!!!"

That being said, I haven't seen any Czech surplus for quite a while...
