PCC'S - why so much love lately?

I bought my Kriss simply for the fact that I have enough 5.56 platforms at the moment and the Kriss can accept Glock 21 magazines, and is fairly unique. I also got it so I could shoot the steel on the pistol bay at my range since I'm only using the 5.5" barrel. Some people may not have a lot of use for one but they are incredibly fun to shoot. I helped host the range day with Jo-Brooks and was on the carbine range. I expected everyone to want to shoot the mythical AR15, but everybody wanted to shoot the Kriss, S2K and JR carbine, so PPCs are definately popular.

My Rossi Puma in 454 Casull clocked 1820FPS with 300grains bullets with only 29grains of H110, that's not even max load and I bet it would be good enough for hunting.
And it is light, NR and fits 10 rounds in the tube.

I bought a TDC in 9mm for small game hunting and as a SHTF rifle for someone who's small in stature. A small woman or a child could easily use it. 10 seconds and a power tool and you can have it capable of throwing serious amounts of lead down range in a hurry.

I've also got a Rossi M92 in .454 Casull and wouldn't have any problem using it on anything up to, and including moose within 150ish yards.

I don't think there is one person on this board who would want to stand in front of a 9mm coming at them. That's for sure.

I've only run three loads through my'n thus far. I don't really know much about speeds or load data but my own personal reactions to those loads were:

Winchester 240gr HP: " ####, that's not bad at all. I like this gun."
Federal Fusion 240gr: " Alright, getting warmer but not too wild yet. This'll do some serious killing."
Speer Gold-Dot 300gr: " Holy ####balls! That's pretty stout!"

I'm going to order some 240gr and 300gr Hornady rounds pretty soon for hunting this year and see how they do. I've also fired a box of 230ish grain AE 45 Colt round through it and they're fun. I don't think i'll use them again for partridge hunting though. :D

9mm Jr or thuron is a non restricted 10 round package at a third of the price of a non restricted .223
900$ for a JR compared to 2500 for an xcr, 2600 for a tavor, 2500 for a famae sg540

Not many people can afford 2500$ on a non restricted 10 round semi automatic with all the fun tactical accessories that can be mounted on them.
My NEA AR15 7.5' Barrel $1500 all accessorized so 1/3 is not accurate

Any PCCs in .357 SIG yet?

Can't see any compelling reason to shoot .357 SIG in a 9mm AR

For sake of argument , lets assume for 124Gr you are @ 1400 fps with 357 Sig

There is lots of load data for 9mm Major for IPSC open division

Most of this data will launch a 124gr @ over 1350 ( I'm clocking just under 1380 out of a short 4" barrel in a STI Stinger open gun)

The advantages of 9mm is way less expensive brass

The bolt / buffer of a 9mm AR has enough mass to keep the bolt closed with 9mm Major . I have verified this by measuring case expansion of fired case

Only word of caution is don't mix up 9 Major loads with your standard +P ammo. I use different color MTM ammo boxes and I generally never bring a 9mm gun to range when I am shooting 9 major

You need to read up on 9mm Major loads and all caveats ( such as COL and primer choices ) before you start venturing down this path.

Sure there is. Just finished making it. I only wish I could get a longer .357 sig Glock barrel.

I've hummed and hawed for a while on a PCC but can't pull the trigger. I can't see it as a good camp gun, sorry don't think 9mm, .40 or .45 will stop an angry bear fast enough for my liking. Small game gun? No way, 9mm on rabbit or squirrel is crazy over kill and will ruin meat big time. Varmints, well maybe, but you will run out of range and accuracy in a hurry, close up, sure. Best roll for a PCC (other than a plinker, which im sure it is great for)would be HD, 10 rounds of your favourite pistol round would be effective as HD, bolt on a flashlight and go...

I may get one someday but only as a plinker or present for the wife or kids, just my thoughts on PCCs, YMMV.

Portable portable portable! My Sub2000 weighs even less than my MP5K! Guess which one I'll be hunting sheep with this fall?

But seriously... They are a compromise weapon for certain situations. I've been places in the mountains where there was no way I was going to lug a shotgun, but my bear spray left me feeling a bit undergunned. 10 quick rounds of +P 9mm is nothing to sneeze at, for any critter. No, obviously not ideal, but I'd rather have a PCC than bearspray if those were my only options.

I would also suggest that they are good for cheaper AR training. And for steel challenge, etc. no its not .22 but its still cheaper than .223 or x39 or x51(at least 9mm is) and 10 rounds, same mag as your pistol etc

I was on a low light course a few month back. One of the guys was shooting a non-restricted Sub 2000 in 9mm. The rest of us had the usual compliment of AR's, XCR's, VZ's. The muzzle flash on the subject 2000 was virtually nonexistent. On an open air range with hearing protection it almost sounded like it was suppressed, though of course it wasn't. In that environment the advantages of the PCC were clear.

Caliber effectiveness debate aside, that course taught me a lot about the usefulness of PCC's. I just wish I could buy one that I could trust to be reliable.

I fired 1,400 rounds through my Kriss Vector without a single misfire, failure to feed, or failure to eject. Not a single hiccup. I'd say the Vector is incredibly reliable.
