Welcome to the Next Generation of Mossberg!

Can I ask why? A serious question.

Quite frankly, I think the forward assist is a solution to a problem that doesnt exist. Or for the pessimist: a solution to a problem that makes that problem a bigger problem.

I prefer a forward assist for two reasons. One is that proper drills for clambering a round includes using the forward assist.
The second is that if you have a tightly pinned mag, sometimes the bolt does not fully lock on the first round.

Not being an AR owner, How often do you use the forward assist?

Honestly not very often for most people. However if for some reason the bolt doesn't completely seat, it is handy to push it into position.
It is like performing a press check before a competitive match, I like being sure that my bolt is in battery....
(Still do a press check though. Just hitting the assist does not guarantee a round in the chamber)

All the people commenting on the hunter name.

Are you that dunce? This is an AMERICAN firearm, where they can hunt with it.

Ugliest AR? Check out the AR thread here and check out what some of our um metrosexual members are doing to these guns! you cityots are out to lunch.

If I didn't live in a country where a conservative majority is all talk and no walk, I would love to hunt with one of those.

Here's a couple of reviews on the MMR, might help people get an idea on these rifles and addresses the dust cover and (in my opinion,) the non-issue about the missing forward assist.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand what's up with that ugly pistol grip? Am I missing something here?

We need more inexpensive everything in the gun world. These Mossbergs are for the people who will NOT spend $700 plus tax on a chinese made AR. Well have to see how it stacks up to the other sub-$900 AR's avail in Canada like the Windham Weaponry and DPMS cheapies.
