What weapon will you be big game hunting with this year?

Not sure where you live as you don't list a location, but I guess you can bow hunt on a open season but need draws for using a gun? How about deer? Using a bow too?

Alberta. In most zones, especially in the northern half of the province, you can just buy a general archery tag for moose and elk. In the zones I hunt, you have two months for archery before rifle season opens.
My deer hunting depends on my moose success. If successful for moose in archery season, I will likely only hunt whitetail deer (buck) at the end of November with a rifle. If I don't tag out for moose by mid-October, I will fill my supplemental whitetail tags (two tags, antlerless only) as well. This I may do with a bow if before November 1, if after I will use a rifle. If I shoot a moose, I won't need the meat from the two does, even with four sons and a wife to feed, lol.

SOunds like you have lots of interesting choices, too! My choice would be the Ruger, of course ;)

I have a ton of choices but try to cycle through them over the years with priority given to guns that haven't been used to take some sort of game. Both the .416 Ruger and .375 H&H have been hunted with but no game was harvested. Of course conditions or location also factors in to which gun I take out.

I'm getting pretty excited for fall as well and will also be heading out in a couple of weeks. Elk is first on the agenda and I have a huge bull on the trail cam.

Gatehouse is on the sauce!

The guns I'll take for my moose trip are my 7mm mag and probably 270.

There is a nice 25 acre patch of 15' jack pines I know a big buck hangs out in so I might take the 30-30 as well.

Aside from the 410 for birds and the 444 camp gun, that'll be it.

Oh wait, I forgot my cooey 22. Yeah, that's all.

Nice. Which .410 are you taking?

I may not even be going due to one of the three guys in our group bailing because we didn't get a bull tag. I just need to go to get out there, and besides, calf's are pretty dam tasty anyway. If we do go, I will be using my FN 30-06 M70 SG. I will be backing it up with my .375 H&H Alaskan (the real king....cough-just kidding Gatehouse) and a .303 Savage M99. I will be using the 303 in case I have to go in the thick brush.

Back at home I am hoping that my brother and I are successful in the draw for the controlled dear hunt here in Harrow. We would be able to use shotgun or muzzloaders for deer the first week of November. I will be taking an additional week off if that's the case and will be using a rifled 870 unless anyone would ever part with a rifled Auto 5 barrel for me.... Good luck this fall fellas I am dying to smell that fresh fall air while in the bush!

Deer and Bear : Browning BAR 270 WSM - Excalibur Vortex Crossbow also, gonna give it a try if the situation presents itself from the treestand.
Deer (controlled hunt no rifles allowed) : Beretta AL391 with 1-1/4 oz slugs - Definitely crossbow as well

What are you hunting and what sporting arms are you taking?
My sporting arms of choice for whitetail will be the old fave 700 in 257Roberts and a (new to me this year) 20" 760 in 308 with Lyman rec sight. I had hoped to have a Model Seven SS in 250AI ready, but the wait time for a McMillan put that off till next year.

Also have in line is an SKB M100 20ga for grouse and a BRNO 7x57R over 12ga for those combo days where I'd rather pot a grouse than deer.
