Hi
Just finished shooting the World's Individuals and it was a tough go with incredibly tricky winds. I shot today at 1000 yards with my rifle scope centered and held from 3 MOA right across the target to 3 minutes left twice in a 20 round match!!!
The overwhelming choice for F-Open is the straight or improved 284 Win shooting 180 Berger Hybrids. Probably most of the shooters were using a form of 284 Win. There were a few 300 WSM's and one 300 SAUM but they aren't the top choice. The top choice for F-TR is the 308 shooting heavy 200 grain bullets. There was only one 223 in the line-up and with these winds this is a very poor choice.
One guy was shooting a 300 WSM using the 230 Berger Hybrids but even he was having recoil issues and had to back off the velocities.
The US shoots differently than we do and the lower recoil of the 24 makes it the best choice. In Canada, the style we shoot opens up the choices slightly but not much as recoil is still the limiting factor.
