3 Gun Team Match @ PCFGA, Peace River, AB, October 5th, 2013

Some round count info: It's looking to be around 55 rifle, 50 pistol, and 35 birdshot.

Please keep in mind those are minimum round counts and that if team mates are sharing a rifle on the long range stage you will be allowed up to 30 rounds each, so adjust your ammo supply for that rifle accordingly! That also does not count for shotgun or pistol ammo for the post-match steel head-to-head shoot.

Thanks to Kate at ammosupply.ca for sponsoring more match prizes!

Edit: and a box of goodies from 4thGenTactical arrived today. Thanks to Adrian for the assortment of TekMats and cleaning supplies!

Less than two weeks to go now.

A couple of notes: the range is closed all day on Friday, Oct. 4th. First for a rental til 5pm and after that for 3 gun setup. If you're planning on arriving Friday and camping at the range, or coming out to help with setup, please do so after 5pm. Do not count on being able to sight in or practice Friday evening. Show up with your guns squared away!

Also, if you show up Friday evening, you will be put to work.:) That will be the theme of the whole match, too. This is the largest event we've ever run and the team format is brand new. We're going to have to drive pretty hard on Saturday to keep things running smoothly. All shooters are required to help with stage reset and to be ready to go when it is their turn. No sitting in your lawn chair watching everyone else do the work!:)

Redlight35 and I did some testing and timing on the long range stage today. Each team member will be allowed a maximum of 20 rounds each and par time for the stage will be set at 3 minutes. Each plate left standing will incur a penalty of 5 seconds per plate added to the 3 minute par time.

A competent team will have no problems completing the stage in 2 minutes. A good team will be able to do it in 90 seconds or less.

Curious what rifle caliber you evaluated on the stage?

We shot it with 7.62x39 and .308. One shot kills with both. Previous testing has shown .223 is marginal at best with multiple hits or very precise shot placement required.

A very low hit on the plate with 7.62x39 or .308 may still not get them to fall, but it's not that common.

This is exactly what I had in mind. I wouldn't be worried slinging a fast 62 gr or a 69gr bullet if I was allowed to double tap or multiple engagements, but with the imposed round count I may have to come up with something else.... Can one switch AR uppers...? Hahaha

Interesting, you're a braver man than I. Shot placement will be everything. You noted the 20 round per shooter limit on that stage, I hope?

20 rounds gives you two shots + per target. We initially intended to go with 30 rounds per shooter, but with the 3 minute par time it was conceivable that the second team member might not get to shoot if the first was slow. The reset time on this stage is fairly long, so we need to keep it moving.

No, your rifle must stay in the same configuration all day. No adding or removing optics or changing uppers.

It wasn't my intention to force the use of .30 cal guns (though I do like to see more of them at the shoots) but the size and weight of our plates have made the rifle selection very important. And remember, you can share one rifle for this stage. Both team members do not need to bring a cannon.

Redlight35 can confirm the relative performance of .223 vs. 762x39 or .308. We've tested with 62 and 69 gr. as well.

Sorry I guess I misunderstood. Above you had mentioned that the long range stage had 18 targets and then added that the stage would have a 20 round max. I guess my math or understanding is incorrect...?

this close to the match it is hard for me to switch guns... so .223 it is going to have to be.

are ALL targets going to be at 300yds, or give us an idea what the setup will be.

18 targets for the whole team. 20 rounds for each shooter. Each team mate has 9 targets to engage. I mucked up my math in the post just above, it's 2+ shots per target.

No, not all at 300m. Equally split between 100, 200 and 300.

The calibre/target limitations for this stage were posted quite some time ago, when I realized .223 was marginal. I've never given out this much info on a stage before and it's to make sure everyone is aware and prepared.
