Redlight35 and I did some testing and timing on the long range stage today. Each team member will be allowed a maximum of 20 rounds each and par time for the stage will be set at 3 minutes. Each plate left standing will incur a penalty of 5 seconds per plate added to the 3 minute par time.
A competent team will have no problems completing the stage in 2 minutes. A good team will be able to do it in 90 seconds or less.
Curious what rifle caliber you evaluated on the stage?
hmmmm..... i should have bought that sr-25... or at least the bushmaster moe that wolverine has.
its ok I am using the 18" stag 3G rifle with 62gr... hopefully with fast shooting the plates will fall.
Interesting, you're a braver man than I. Shot placement will be everything. You noted the 20 round per shooter limit on that stage, I hope?
This is exactly what I had in mind. I wouldn't be worried slinging a fast 62 gr or a 69gr bullet if I was allowed to double tap or multiple engagements, but with the imposed round count I may have to come up with something else.... Can one switch AR uppers...? Hahaha
20 rounds gives you three shots + per target. We initially intended to go with 30 rounds per shooter, but with the 3 minute par time it was conceivable that the second team member might not get to shoot if the first was slow. The reset time on this stage is fairly long, so we need to keep it moving.
No, your rifle must stay in the same configuration all day. No adding or removing optics or changing uppers.
It wasn't my intention to force the use of .30 cal guns (though I do like to see more of them at the shoots) but the size and weight of our plates have made the rifle selection very important. And remember, you can share one rifle for this stage. Both team members do not need to bring a cannon.
Redlight35 can confirm the relative performance of .223 vs. 762x39 or .308. We've tested with 62 and 69 gr. as well.
Sorry I guess I misunderstood. Above you had mentioned that the long range stage had 18 targets and then added that the stage would have a 20 round max. I guess my math or understanding is incorrect...?
this close to the match it is hard for me to switch guns... so .223 it is going to have to be.
are ALL targets going to be at 300yds, or give us an idea what the setup will be.
