New Items: M4 Quad Forend; NS522 Match Sporting Rifle

I was thinking wood or synthetic,, just something that would fit better and better grip plus float the barrel. Even the stock that was on the original ns522!

Playing with the idea of attempting my own custom stock when mine arrives. By removing the inletted area squaring it all up adding laminate wood and cut to shape. Definatly with a free float barrel. Thinking something biathlon ish.

With my woodworking skills that kind of project would turn out like a preschool kids popsicle stick project! But if you have the skills we want pics when you are done! I am going to order the 522 but am still looking for cil anshutz180 with the54 reciever and aperture sights too!

rimfire central indicates there are a couple stock makers who made stocks for these 22s

I am going to try bedding it and FF the barrel

Would sanding down for FF take care of the washers , dont really care about those when i broke it down to clean a bit of a suprise there.

I think the washers are there for the trigger guard so it sits flush with the stock instead of sunken in. I don't think these stocks were made for these exact rifles...just my observation. Kengs probably bought the rifles sans stock and had their own made stateside. I wonder how long these have been sitting for? Probably 20 years. The inletting for the bolt handle is all wrong, plus the washers for spacers in the trigger guard. That area could be built up and bedded to the trigger guard to elimnate the washers...
Stocks are likely leftovers or salvaged from EM332...inletting would fit that butterknife bolt handle better.

Overall decent rifle, my spare mag had a pretty rusty spring, bit of corrosion inside the bolt but nothing that didn't clean up. Action is not very smooth as the inside of the receiver is pretty roughly machined. Should smooth out after some use though. Left extractor was seized and took a little work to get moving. Chambers look nice and short, should be a fairly accurate rifle. And I agree with the price, they are a $250 rifle. For $40 more you can get a Zastava Z5 which are really nice rifles.

Those sling studs are added by no brainer ! the stock is better without them.

The safety is mark by a yellow paint, a little scratch, they will come off

So I managed to pick one of these up today.

Pulled it out of the box and removed it from it oil soaked bag. Gave it a quick wipe down and installed the bolt. My initial impressions are it relatively light weight for a " bull barrel " rifle. The bolt reminds me of the bolt in my Savage 93R17 17 HMR target rifle. I will have to pull it out and compare a bit. I do like the the spiral barrel, not too aggressively done so the rifle looks gaudy but enough to give it a touch of class. The action is pretty smooth especially considering the cost of the rifle. Not supper smooth but fit is good enough that it glides nicely. Nice light single stage trigger works well, the bolt handle jumps slightly when you pull the trigger but not too much.

Now for the one thing I don't like. The quality of finish on the stock is horrible. Mine has numerous very noticeable imperfections. Some that look to be quality issues with the sanding and wood while others look like something banged into the wood leaving impressions. Overall I like the shape of the stock except for the deep notch cut for the bolt handle. It shoulders nicely, very comfortable and not enough weight at the front to be discouraging.

Conclusion, it's a 250$ Chinese made match rifle. You pay for what you get and it's worth exactly that, 250$. I wouldn't pay any more though unless the quality of the stock was better.

A quick thanks to Canada Ammo. I ordered one of the NS522 Match Rifles and it arrived three days later. It's a nice little rifle, great weight and 'feel' with a surprisingly good trigger. I'm looking forward to shooting it.

Just cleaned up my NS522 and cycled a few rounds into the chamber from the magazine and found two issues. First one concerns me the most, when I pull out the live round and look at it, I can see that the bullet has been jammed into the rifling a fair distance. Is this going to be a safety issue? Second issue is when the bolt passes over the cartridge in the magazine, it shaves a piece of lead off the bullet. Does anyone else have these issues? Can I file a small amount of metal off the bolt or just resort to single feeding for max accuracy?

Aw man. I wanted this to be a combo and waited a week to order it. Just received it and now it's a combo. :( Oh well. Wife wouldn't have been happy if I'd spent an extra 250$

My M4 arrived early. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics, I should have some better ones by the weekend. It looks and feels good and has a nice trigger.
Should be going to the range on Friday.
Any other requests?
