EMT Only to Buy a Sporting Rifle?

There's a reason money orders are the nigerian currency of choice... That being said, emt are no more "secure" in that, if there is a fraud, the police won't investigate... But as a seller it's the most secure... Get the cash in your bank then send your item... Realistically, trader rating usually tells the tale...

I live 370 miles and a $900 plane ride from the nearest bank. EMT is all that works for me at present, though the Purolated wad o'cash is interesting too.

i found the easiest solution to this EMT fiasco. i will send a Moneygram from the post office. the seller can pack the gun and in a single trip, he does both chores. Pick up payment and send product. If the PO does not have enough cash, awhh boo boo...they give a postal money order which is like cash. I have lost funds thru the EMT route and i have ignored the EMT only ads in the EEs. I would rather work with a person willing to work on payment with me. Wanna sell it...then be open to other methods. This is my humble opinion. Small town banks and credit unions do not have EMT so we lacking the service do state up front what we can do. Dont like my money, do not sell it to me...someone else will gain by it.

How have you lost funds through emt?... Curious to know what to watch for...

I sent the funds thru EMT to an email handle. the funds were taken out and account closed. never got the product. Privacy act protected the account owner. Moneygram is guaranteed to arrive and only be picked up by the seller. One trip to post office also. Same day service.

Did that happen on this site or somewhere else?

Why didn't your bank help you?
Fraud is fraud.

the banks only process the transfer. they do not insure nor guarantee the info is true. Only my word which proves nothing. How would they collect funds from a closed account? at least some info can be got from the bank where a money order is cashed. and id can be asked for by the post office issuing a moneygram. paper trail is better than nothing. but to each thier own...the EMT ONLY...limits the customer field drastically. If the moneygram charges are too high, i am sure the seller will wait til a money order arrives for that big amount if you explain the charges. I certainly would. If not...well there may be a better deal forthcoming. There is nothing that cannot wait a few days and is life or death for a product.IMHO. in my almost 200 deals, including only one EMT( never again) and the rest in money orders or Cash, i have never lost an envelope containing either .

Thanks for that info 'Toymaker. Funny, I had thought through the EMT thing and that's what came to mind to me its easy to set up a bank account, apparently easy to get set up with EMT and its always been easy to close a bank account. I know, its scary I think like a crook sometimes

I'm curious that some say their bank holds Canada Post money orders to clear:confused: I've never had that experience mind you I just deposit in a machine. Another option as well is an old fashioned certified cheque its as good as cash as well. I prefer a postal MO though; cheap, quite quick, one stop, and a bit of a paper trail. You can require a signature for receipt too, another level of security.

For those who have a general distrust in others and are too worried about having a deal go sour, I'd suggest to go elsewhere than an EE type buying/selling environment.

No method of payment is foolproof. EMT is the most efficient and convenient IF you have a basic trust in people.

When you buy from anybody you are basically placing trust in that individual to carry through on their end of the bargain.Method of payment aside,if a guy is going to screw you on a deal it doesn't matter how they collect the funds.I am a recent convert to the EMT thing and was reluctant to go that route for all of the reasons being bandied about in previous posts, but it is so much easier and quicker than old style snail mail payments and substantially cheaper at my end when it comes to service charges. Now when it comes to selling items,I would never limit a seller to strictly EMT payments simply because I want to cover all the payment options for any sellers, just my opinion on the matter.
