So instead of going to the range and shooting my Glocks and my SU-16 at metal gongs I figured I needed to test this baby on live targets. Pulled out my coyote calls jumped in the Chevy and headed out of town. Got to one of my areas and called a few spots and called one in. I got him in to 133 yards and pulled the trigger. The 55gr MFS did its job and knocked him on his a$$, coyote #1 w/ my black gun. Next dog I took was about a mile away and got to use the semi as it was intended to. This guy was doing a full run up the side of the valley@ approx 170 yards. Shot 1x and was about 2 feet behind, adjusted and shot just under, 3x was a charm and hammered him. He's now having a dirt nap.
I must have got lucky cause this gun is a decent shooter and best of all it loves 55 gr. MFS hollow points. The only thing I found with the SU-16 was that it was slippery, so I put some grip tape on the forestock and stippled my hand grip, mag release and stock extension lever.

Cheers!!

Well I'm gonna see what this rifle is made of for sure this winter. I do alot of dog hunting and hunt in temps as cold as -35, we will see how this holds up. I will periodically add to this post all winter.

Cheers!!

Good shooting. I bought a su16 with the express purpose of coyote calling. Mine will put 5 MFS into 1.5-2.5" it really likes Fiocchi ammo 5 inti 1-1.5" .

Mine was pretty accurate too for the first 5 rounds and then the barrel got hot and groups opened right up. Not a problem for hunting though. Keep us updated!

This is likely an obvious question for you guys, but.....

in Ontario, what do you need to hunt yotes?

I'm going to run a couple searches in the hunting forum, just wondering if any of you have a quick accurate answer for me

i mostly range shoot, but lately acquired some new guns that would be great for dropping yotes!

OP, nice gun, nice dogs.

I was wondering, does the 5 rd capacity rule apply in this case or not..? Hunting with centerfire rifle? or the "pistol mag rule" overrules..? ;)
i was thinking to take the Tavor up north to shoot some yotes as well, but was thinking of just taking the 5rounder p mags, to avoid any complications.

Pretty sure local hunting regs always trump mag capacities, at least I would assume so. Just like shotguns used here are limited to 3 round regardless of capacity when hunting migratory game birds, etc. So you have to plug them down to 3 rounds. I think it was still like that last I checked...

Coyotes dont really fall into hunting regs here in Sask, kinda sorta. There are no regs other then only Sask residents can shoot them and can't shoot them at night. I would check your provincial regs to make sure.
