What firearms are you taking to deer camp this year?

Ruger M77 (tang safety) in 308 for the long range runs

Ruger 77/44 semi long range (she wears a 1.5-4.5 scope now)

Rem 870 Wingmaster (smooth bore. rifle sights) for the really thick stuff

scoped sako85 in 270 as primary. izhmash los7 in 308 iron sights as backup.

beretta a391 smoothbore 12g comes along for dense brush hunting (where the bucks live!)

.30-06 Model 700 BDL Remington for most days.
For particularly fine weather days sitting on a hardwood ridge a 1894 Winchester manufactured in 1902 and chambered in 38-55 that hasn't taken any game in the last 40 years. With a 26" half round half octagon barrel it may not handle like a 94 carbine in the thick stuff but its got that something special that really makes me want to take a deer with it.

The usual: 308 cal for the long range shots on open areas & in the fields and a .303 No5 for short range & pushing those small, cramped bushes.

I love the pair: one with big glass and long range reaching power... And the other with superior handling in thick brush and awesome open battle sights to see through.

Santa Barbara M1000 in 7mm Mauser with a 1.5-4.5 Bushnell Scopechielf IV. My brother will be taking his Winchester M70 in 30-06 with a Leopauld VX-1 3-9x40.

It seems most guys bring two rifles, but I typically bring 3-4. I bring a bunch so I can bring what I need based on conditions and type/location of that day's hunt.....plus I adleast like everything I own to have some blood to it's name :). Plus I always like to have backup for me and my hunting buddies.

This is what I typically bring and will have with me next week;
Weatherby Mark V 257 / Swarovski z6 3-18 ==> for hunting two of our stands that have 200-400yrd shots.
Rem 700 BDL 308win (short barrel) / Bushnell 3200 1.5-4.5==> for bush whacking
Rem 700 Stainless 7mmRM Bushnell 3200 3-9==> for crappy weather conditions (rain, snow, etc)
Kimber 84L Classic 270win Leupold vx2 3-9 ==> new rifle needs some action
Baikal O/U 12 Gauge ==> for grouse if we tag out

3 deer so far with 3 of my guns. I took a 10 point with my Robinson Arms XCR in 6.8 SPC, My friends son took his first deer, a 6 point with my Weatherby Vanguard 7mm, and a female friend of mine took her first deer, a smaller 6 point with my Browning A Bolt Medallion in 270 win.

You too huh? Ever find that the "seasoned" rifle seems to bag'em easy, but that new rifle has a hard time getting the first one? I have a rifle that it didn't bag one the first two years, but now has a better record than the US Postal Service, "put the right address (aim) on the package and it gets delivered (to target) every time; no matter the weather" that I've had for about a decade. The latest aquisition is out for its third year, and no deer to its name yet (so to speak).

Only my M305 got one the first time: within 2 minutes of getting out of the truck the first time out with it.

first deer camp this year was a browning 7mm, the next trip out next week will be a 303 British.

Savage 11 in .270Win. Was going to take my Axis SS in .308 but last weekend on the 100 yard range I was enjoying shooting the .270, so up it goes.

Back up gun, Mossberg 500 20 gauge with slug barrel.

Going up with deer lic, and bear, since the guys last week saw more than a few bears.

Your right on the money..... it's so funny how those "seasoned" rifles always seem to be in your hands when the deer walk out. I've gotten more with my 308 Rem 700 then any other rifle. My 7mm SS took two years to get anything to it's name, but it did brake it's cherry last year twice so it made up for it :). I'm hoping this week that the new Kimber doesn't fall into that category.

I'm going to take the 'Shab Rifle' M700 .270Win, and my M1894 Big Bore, in .375Win. The .375Win is obviously for the close shots, in the timber, and the .270 if I have to reach out a bit, or make a tougher shot, where a scope would help.
