What Was your first deer shot with?

Win 94 3030. I ended up trading that gun away several yrs later.

About 50 paces quartering away from me.....I was 12yrs old. He walked about 50 yds away and died. I thought I missed until I saw the blood trail.
My heart was pounding so loud in my ears I honestly don't remember hearing the gun go bang...felt the recoil tho.

A friend's Grandfather helped me gut it, we skinned it later as well.

My dad's old Winchester 94 .30 W.C.F., fully loaded (!) with 170 grain Dominion KKSP's, back in '71. In the boiler room just behind his front leg. Dropped, got up, ran about 35 yards along the edge of the creek, then dropped & stayed there. Seem to remember the recovered bullet looked like a classic mushroom just like in the books, but darned if I can remember what ever happened to that bullet. Kept it for a lot of years. Kept my dad's old white coveralls that I wore as well, but figuring as how we can't use white anymore in Manitoba & I'll never fit them again, I gave them to my son last year to keep. He keeps asking about Grampa's 30-30, but I keep telling him he'll get it, along with a few of my other keeper firearms, when I take the big dirt nap, but probably not before.

About 80 yards with a wby .300.
Real big whitetail buck, not much of a rack though, but it was like a thornbush; little spikes all over it. 7x7 but I really doubt all of them would be big enough to count.
He was tasty too lol.

Doe in Wilcox, PA. Win model 88 in 308. Straight on shot, through the chest and out the middle of the spine.

50 Cal. Thompson Center Maxi Slug, 370 grains of pure lead and 80 grains volume FFFg out of a TC Hawken, actually the next 18 or so fell to the same combo, at 63 it's the only firearm I've ever used on deer. Had it for the first ever controlled hunt in southern Ontario back in 77 or 78 I think it was. I confess, there was a few more skewered with a crossbow but that is not a firearm. It's always worn a Lyman 57 peep on the tang and is very accurate to 125 yds., the farthest I've shot a deer with it.

Winchester Model 70XTR in 7mmRemington Magnum(My first new centerfire-rifle '81 and still have it) firing 150gr PSPCL's at a paced distance of 147yds on an nice 8 point buck field dressing at 226lbs on Monday morning October31st 1983. Hammered him in his tracks like Thor, left me with a lot of respect for the big 7 considering no major bones were hit or the CNS.

Still haven't killed one heavier. It was all down hill from there for me sad to say but I still like getting out every year.

See how these events that occur in 5-7 seconds leave such an impression in our minds decades later. Anyone who experiences this knows too well.:canadaFlag:

12g slug out of a Rem 870 rifled slug barrel at about 50ys this past tuesday :) Just a tiny little guy, thought it was a doe until I found it and realized he had the tiniest little nubs of antlers...At least I've set the bar low to go up from here. It's still meat in the freezer

Yep, my first sure looked like a giant standing on the trail in front of me! Those little black buttons are a dead giveaway once you get up close though! Still not going to ever forget that moment though, and wouldn't change it for anything.

38 years ago age 16, I heard a branch snap, and squatted. 6pt buck stepped out onto trail and stopped, facing me. I hit him just below his throat using jungle carbine/battle sight. I recall 150gr Imperial Sabre-Tip, I think maybe 30-35yds. Quick jog to bicycle, farmer on tractor with bucket in field a km away pulled the pin from his harrow and the deer was home in a jiffy. Still have the jungle carbine!
