NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

So I picked mine up from can park last night, after a detailed cleaning and greasing everything looks acceptable, however my bolt catch won't catch. I've been a long time troller and have not seen anything about this particular problem. If anyone could chime in as to what may be the cause it would be great.
..........
To clarify the bolt catch does hold the bolt back as long as I'm pushing on it, as soon as I let go the bolt is released.

Nothing wrong, within acceptable tolerances for a battle rifle. Shoot it as delivered and see how it is, probably will be close for windage and not good for elevation, a common problem with shorties. Match M14 rifle tuning is another story, at least $2500 for "blueprinted" rifles with perfect index, assembled from the cream of the crop parts selected for perfect tolerance and likely these will have perfectly centered front sights along with the rear sight centered. Precisely indexed/aligned factory Norincos/Dominion Arms are pretty rare, and will likely (always) have other minor issues, what do you expect for less than $400?
Seriously, these rifles are a steal at the price. I currently own 3, fun to shoot and as much fun to tweak - If one is picky and inept, just buck up and have a custom rifle built for you.

Wow, thanks for setting me straight bro, I bought two of these and clearly by my post I am totally not happy with my purchase, I guess? I thought these were Springfield Armory until you told me what the #### was up, thanks for that...

I dont think these are properly sighted in, hence the 500 dollar price tag (let us know where you got yours for under 400, the rest of us just paid 500+). Looking from the top down on one of the rifles I got, this will be off the paper at 50 yards. Again, there are two notches on mine, and its looking like the other notch will put it way closer to zero.

Now I will repeat what I said in the post you answered to.I will take it out and shoot it before I touch the front sight.

This not my first firearm by the way, its kinda easy to see the front sight is to far to the right, it has nothing to do with "Cosmetics" The rear aperture is dead center with the barrel and the front post is barely over the bore. I predict a very far shot left lol. We'll see.

I am assuming you are pulling the op rod all the way back, then pushing the lock tab in?
The rod goes further back than you might think.
Try it with an empty mag.

The problems seems to be that the catch is sliding of the face of the bolt. The empty mag will hold it back but as soon as I drop the mag the bolt is released.

Upon rereading my post, I realize I could have been more gracious with the wording. If I offended you, I apologize. My intent was to reassure you that your rifle might well be OK and that you were doing exactly the right thing by taking it out and shooting it before messing with it.

I had just finished reading a series of posts by people seemingly new to this platform, complaining about everything from indexing, sight alignment, sloppy assembly, to barrel quality issues. Hence my ill considered general comment "what do you expect?". And yes, $400 was a typo, of course it should have been $500, thanks for pointing this out.

In any case, I wish you the best and hope your rifle works out fine.

Why can't everyone be friendly? Lighten up and stop taking everything in the worst possible light.

This type of medium is limited on how much emotion it can express. Often times it seems the receiver of any correspondence, in this thread and others, is the one who determines the emotion in the transmission by the way they choose to perceive said transmission. One can always choose to not be offended and instead engage is open and friendly communication.

Oh no worries man, I see it the same way as you by the way, its a cheap fun rifle, mine were slightly off on the indexing and I needed to peen the op rod guide on one, the other I am leaving for now because the blackfeather stock comes with a new guide :D, but I love working on guns almost as much as shooting them so I don't complain about any of that (I see it as familiarizing myself with my rifle). This thread has helped a lot with the tinkering of them. If it re chambers a round, I wont care about the indexing...And if it doesnt explode. I was not offended, but I think someone else is the person you should have answered to . I would bet money that my front sight needs adjustment though ( And that is no big deal)As one is slightly off but close enough, the other just dont look correct. I will be sure to post the results after I shoot it, I have no problems admitting when I am wrong lol. I cant find my damn charger for my camera right now, otherwise I would post a pic of it. All said and done, I have fired other norinco M305's, if I had the cash, I would buy 2 more right now. But, with the price going up, canam said they will hold norinco to a higher standard, so getting in on the next batch wont be the worst thing.

FWIW guys, I had to adjust my front sight from the staked factory position on my 09 m305... the important point for new owners is that the rear sight is centered, adjust the front sight for windage.

Interestingly everyone was fine except for you. You should be a counselor, using 10 words where 1 will do, you'll make a killing.

;)

I came her to learn about a firearm I wanted to buy and now get a lesson in sword fighting. Very cool brothers.

I finally purchased one, and I would like to order a new spring guide, but I want to know if it will make a difference on accuracy and function (small or huge?), and get your impression on the magwedge vs NEA (NEA is 10$ cheaper), both non-fluted (fluted are sold out everywhere). Also, should I wait for the fluted ones to get back in stock?

"M14 M305 Op Rod Match Grade Spring Guide - Non-Fluted"

Ya, I'd just hate to see you buy an actual op rod for no reason :)

Have you considered the M14.ca Black Arrow spring guide?
