I think you did good if your goal was to get a 1911. I say buy 500 rounds, and don't sell it until you have gone through every last round, OR, owned it for 3 months. Give it time, and it should grow. If it doesn't, your probably not a 1911 guy.
I have a mirror blue finish, original Remington Issue, 1911, stamped with "property of US government", and she is a real beaut. I don't shoot it all that much for some reason, but I do love her when I get her out. A nice colt 1911 is a nice "must have" on the pistol rack. As long as you don't hate, you will probably learn to love it.
Plus, when you bring newbs out and you ask them what they want to shoot, a 1911 is almost always on their bucket list
