I have a problem with the hammer following the bolt forwards as well is it being very had to remove mags.

I think this is because the stock is poorly fitted. I can tell that my trigger group is being forced in at an angle in order to lock it in place.

I think I have to remove a tiny bit of material from the stock where the rear of the trigger group rests.


Maybe somebody could confirm this by looking on an M14 that works properly. Does the very bottom of you trigger group touch the rear face of your mag body when the mag is fully inserted? If there is a gap there, how big is it? The thickness of a hair, .030"?

It is quite hard to get the trigger group in and out, as well as to close the trigger guard latch once its in. Other than that the action is pretty smooth, and the hammer has stayed cocked fine. I haven't fired mine yet.. couldn't afford the ammo combo and they refused to let me pay in installments. I see you solved your problem; thanks for the heads up on that I'll see if anything is rubbing in there tonight.

Anyone know if there's smaller mags out there?
 
yes lots of 5/5 rd mags are out there as well as some 5/10 ones . The 5/10 ones are hard to get and $$.
I don't like the 5/5 mags as they sit almost flush with the stock .
 
Took mine to the range today. Groupings are very good, all shots are touching.. The gun functions flawlessly. I did not get it sighted in tho. I apparently suck at that. Both mags worked perfect as well as a 5/5 mag. Leaving the front sight flush with the right side of the dovetail as it shot only slightly to the right.

I shot some Federal 150gr .308 from mine today. Got my best group so far at 50m @ about 1.5". It sure beats up the brass though.

I am betting I will do better with a scope on it.

I have an Arms 18 in Lund so I can mount my Trijicon accupoint 1-4 power. I think that is going to make for a pretty sweet rifle.
 
Get ready to trim yer ejector and extractor springs, stovepipe city on mine with the arms 18.

Im going to try some usgi springs first.
 
endears of this. But I feel like the sight plane is so high already that I didn't want one of the higher mounts.

I want to keep the iron too. So it was the Arms 18 or the. Sadlak mount.

I think wolf springs sells a kit...
 
Finally got out to shoot my socom 18 this past weekend. I was really surprised at the accuracy right out the box. I was hitting pop cans consistently at 100m. 2-2 1/2 grouping on paper at 100m. Not the best but not too bad for bone stock!. My barrel is over indexed a bit and the front sight post is all the way to the right. That really bothered me at first but I'm getting over it. One issue I had though was a bunch of light primer strikes with steal case hornady 150gr. Didn't have a problem with Remington core lokt 150gr. Not sure if it was just the ammo.
 
Picked mine up from local dealer for $475. Been flawless through 200 rds. Though the receiver is marked 7.62x51, I've only fired AE308D (American Eagle .308 FMJBT 150 gr. Red Box). All components were aligned correct and straight out of the box and all I've had to do was clean, lube, and sight it in. Though we already have 3 Norc M305s I wanted this one only because I thought it was different... and it is. It's by far the best of the bunch. Great trigger, accurate and well put together. It comes apart easy, goes together easy, has the best (easiest to manipulate) safety came with 2 5/20 magazines which both function perfect and fit snug. I am not a bench shooter, but from prone in the snow was able to get 3.5" groups during sight in (same as I get from my scoped 22" Savage M11 .308) so I can safely say this rifle shoots better than me. BEST PURCHASE EVER... so far.
