Ditch back up irons for AR or what

On my AR set up I have a 1.5-4x optic with simple crosshair reticle. I also have backup irons. The scope is mounted as far rear as possible while allowing the rear iron to flip up.

My problem is that I find the eye relief to be a tad too long. I like my stock adjustment the way it is but when I try to focus on the scope I have to scrunch forward half an inch.

I'm beginning to question the need to have the backup iron at all. My scope will never 'run out of batteries'. And let's say something happens to my scope, it is on a Burris quick release mount so I could quickly remove it.

What would you do?

I run my BUS under the scope which is mounted with ADM quick release mounts.

If the scope goes down, it comes off and BUS go up. No point keeping dead weight on the rifle if it ain't working.

No need to allow your BUS to come up at the same time as the optic is in use.

Heck I don't even have any on my ARs.

Because I refuse to pay full price for a set of Troy or KAC, so I'm waiting for someone to hit their head one morning and put these on sale or find some on the EE at a price that's lower than the first option mentioned here :)

If you're scope isn't position in a repeatable spot, you can get with your eyes closed, I think you're doing a disservice to the rifle, optic, and yourself.

Farmboy has the normal solution.

Also, how are BUIS working with a scope that doesn't have 1x as it's lowest setting. Seems odd to co-witness irons sights with a 1.5x scope.

We now have lots of Magpul in stock! Highly recommend them ;)

Yea I think that makes sense. It doesn't make sense to cowitness a scope anyway, right? Either the scope works or it has to come off entirely.

I have not seen it mentioned yet so could this work for you?

Canted iron sights!

Surefire sights in that picture there.

Those are Dueck Defense rapid transition sights.

Barry Dueck works for Surefire and they work great.
Stag sells them as an option on their 3G.
Maybe Arms East has a set.

I have them on my Stag 3G and love them.
You can set your optic for longer distances and use the open sights for close up work.
There is nothing faster unless you are using a red dot for a backup but that will change your classification to open for 3 gun .

Mine are mounted under my optic and my optic is on an ADMS quick release mount. If I needed to bring the optic back I'd mount it in front of the optic. It's not optimal but it's better than not having a BUIS.

I have them on 2 of my AR's and other than to zero them I've never used them.
When was the last time anyone had their scope "go down" I buy quality optics and can't imagine my ACOG or Specter DR failing. They are reliable enough for the military so I think they will survive the drive to the range and back. Even if your competing, worst case scenario you have a bad stage.
If BUIS are interfering with mounting your scope in the right position then ditch them.

What if the soviets invade and your scope gets blown apart by a 762??

Luckily with 7.62x39 the chances of someone actually being able to hit what they are aiming at is low but I'll probably have other things to worry about if that happens.
I have a backup rifle instead of backup irons. :p

Many good solutions presented here. IF you want to maintain your sight setup exactly as it is (there are good reasons to do this, your call), you should consider just getting used to shooting with the stock collapsed to a shorter position. It's not like aerial shotgunning, where stock fit trumps all. Of course, you can also get a scope with longer (or unlimited) eye relief for the easiest but most expensive solution.

This. There's no point in having the irons flip up while the scope is mounted.
