I had a problem with my 597 trigger group, the hammer would not lock back when cocked. I found that the pivot pin for the hammer had broken in the middle. The pin is hardened steel and measures .124" in diameter and is 1.040" long. I cut a 1.040" length off a 1/8" drill bit and used it to replace the broken pin.

I also noticed a lot of wear on the bolt handle where it fits into the bolt causing a sloppy fit. I used my mill and lathe to make up an improved version that fits the bolt tighter and has a longer handle to make it easier to use with gloves with a scope mounted. I made the part that fits into the bolt longer to try and reduce the amount of wear caused by the movement of the handle in the bolt.
Here you can see the fit of the original handle, it only fills about 3/4 the lenght of the slot in the bolt.

Here you can see the wear on the handle after only about 500 rounds.

Here are some pics of the new prototype one I made. It is a tighter fit and fills the entire lenght of the groove in the bolt. It is heavier than the original so I'll have to see if affects the bolt cycling.
