Accuracy International New Models Revealed

Just an update on the AT. I asked on SH if the dovetail was still underneath that tall pic rail on the receiver and the answer is no.

The new rail is user removable and hopefully they will offer a lower height rail for use without the NV bracket (or I'm sure the aftermarket will make one eventually).

Damn this thread.....talked to Guy today and ordered an AT in fde with. 20" barrel. Was told anywhere from 3-5 months. Wanted a left handed version but none are being made of the new series at this time. Also ordered an Accushot bipod and would like the rear monopod as well, but apparently they are in the works but are not being made...yet...

Did he guarantee your price? Slightly concerned as the CAD$/UK£ exchange is tanking.

Hmmm, that's an interesting question? We did go over all the prices of the pieces and it was pretty much exactly what was listed here in the thread price list. I gave him a 20% deposit so I would assume that the price is now fixed. Haven't seen my confirmation email with all the breakdown but I have bought lots of stuff from Guy over the years so not expecting any surprises.

That's good.
I'm tossing a mental coin whether to order an AX308mc or keep holding out for an AW.

He also said that they have a bunch of stuff on preorder as they knew before the official announcement that they were going to have a big demand. He also said that there may be some not spoken for guns come in as they aren't totally sure what exactly they will get, but there may be a few that come even in March....but was elusive as to what as I am sure he doesn't know exactly either and doesn't want to lead anyone on. Great guys to deal with for sure!

So I'm thinking of ordering an AX308MC today in the brown colour.
I have had no luck finding a AW308 at a reasonable price. In fact the only ones that have the options I want are asking considerably more than what I'll pay for a brand new one, and he won't move on price at all.

The only thing holding me off the ax is wondering how the green will look. I love the aw in green. Not sure about the old ax in mixed green and black. But the all green new ax could be nice.

And my other doubt is will a good aw become available??? I don't want to wait too long as the ax prices may go up with our tanking dollar.

Ah decisions.

I'd go with the AX and not look back. It's going to be a piece thats in your gun room for many years and when you look back, you'll always wonder "what if" about buying the top version, imho. I bought the new AT as I have already an AX chassis with a Remy 700 action in it, and love it, so wanted to try there new AT style with the AI barrel/trigger group/brake to compare. Also bought that package from Guy at Wolverine a couple of years back and wondered how the complete set up from AI would compare? This summer is going to be a busy range year!!

My issue is I look at them the other way. I'd choose an old style AW over an AX any day. So my concern is I'll have the ax but always wish I had the AW. The old AX I didn't like at all. The new one with the right folder is very nice, and probably technically better than the AW. But i have sentimental reasons for liking the AW more.

If that's your quandary, then I think that if you are a bit patient, the older used AI stuff is going to show up more and more in the EE. Right now I don't think anyone is jumping to sell, but as the new models actually get delivered and guys take possession, then you'll see the used stuff start to move. Also older version stock in stores as well.

Just dawned on me . I've only seen the AI AT in fde and black . Are they making green ? I just called Wolverine and we didn't even discuss that . I was told that accessories may be quite awhile coming . Specifically stock rails and the spike monopod for the rear .

There is a video of AI at Shot Show this year saying that they are going to make a rear monopod for the new chassis, but not till mid 2014…..so when that will make it to Canada might be late 2014?

Ok I'm leaning ever more towards just getting the ax308mc in brown. Not finding any good AW308 deals.
If I do, my next decision is 20vs 24 inch barrel. I'd get the tactical brake either way, and the 20 does look sharp in the brown with that brake. But sacrificing some velocity. And does the 24 suit a long range looking rig better??!?!?

Not necessarily, unless you're shooting lightweight bullets exclusively you'll probably not get anything more out of the 24" than you would the 20". I went 24 because I can always cut it later, not necessarily the other way around and I've liked the way my current 24" tube has been working out for me.

Get the AW then. You can't go wrong, and I will be brutally honest premium rifles like these were only sold by the handful. So if 2 years down the road you wanted to resell, you can probably get what you paid for it. If not very close to it.

This might be true for factory heavy loads(175gr) but reloading with the 24" or 26" barrel will result in more velocity than a 20" barrel. I use my 308 a lot at 800-1200 yds so I run a 26" barrel on my 308 to get all I can (easy to get 2750fps with 178gr in a 26" without pushing it). I guess the nice thing about a system like this with the quick change barrel is the owner could have a 20" and a 24 or 26" and switch them as needed/wanted.

Can anyone answer this technical question for me.

Which I think is pretty much dead on accurate.

The new ax308mc has a 20moa rail as standard. Now if one wants to use a s&b 5-25x56 pmii I understand these scopes want a 28 or 48 moa total angle.
So with the old 0moa rail, the s&b scope fitted fine on the 48moa mounts. But if you use this mount on top of the 20 moa rail it will be too angled.
So what's the solution using AI mounts, other than doing the machine job on a 28moa mount? I know the big s&b won't fit in a lot of the mounts.

A 30-40 moa base will be best suited for the 5-25 PMII. I get the full 26mils of useable elevation with both the 30moa base (on my TRG's) and the same goes for the 40moa base on my LRT-3.
Consider ERA-TAC's (Recknagel) new moa adjustable mount if your rail is only 20moa. The mount allows you to dial in another 10-70moa as your situation demands. Using this mount you could set it to 20moa in addition to the 20 your rail has and optimize the total cant for the 5-25 PMII.

I have this mount and it is truly a work of art. Nicer than the SPUHR in my opinion.
