so is Type- 81 coming in or not ?

I thought the FRT shown earlier in the thread was for all Type 81's. So there is no official classification for the semi auto Type 81 yet? I still think our classification system is f**ked though.

FRT 67004 = "Kalashnikov Type 81 Rifle" Full Auto, Prohibited as full auto, not as an AK variant
FRT 67089 = "Kalashnikov Type 81 RPK Machine Gun" Converted Auto, Prohibited as a C/A not as an AK variant
FRT 67047 = "Kalashnikov Type 81 RPK Machine Gun" Full Auto, Prohibited as full auto, not as an AK variant

These are the only FRT listings for any Type 81 to date. There is no listing for a semi auto only variant yet published. Until the RCMP have one, and classify it, we won't know its legal status.

The Norinco 81s is a variant of the ak47. As such it is listed as prohibited as an ak variant under Orders/Legal Authority :
PFR, Part 1, para. 64. It's frt is 21128. That is the screen shot you posted.

Fortunately the norinco 81s is not what a Type 81 is. Two completely different firearms. The type 81 is listed under 3 frt numbers... 67004 (full auto prohib), 67089 (c/a prohib) and 67047 (full auto prohib). They ARE NOT listed as AK variants, and are listed as prohibited under Section 84(1)(c) which is actually a good thing. 84(1)(c) speaks to prohibition by full auto or converted auto function, not to being prohib as a variant of a named prohib.

The make on all three is noted as "Kalashnikov".

Does the FRT table actually say "not as an AK variant" ?
If it does that could be a small ray of hope.

I've quoted my earlier post and bolded for clarification.

AK variants are classified as prohib according to PFR, Part 1, para. 64. That section covers named prohibs, and variants of them.

The Type 81 variants listed under the 3 FRT entries are all classified under 84(1)(c) which speaks to prohibition by their mechanics, full or converted auto. Not as variants of a named prohib, specifically an AK.

So while they don't have a note saying " not an ak variant", they aren't classified under the named variant section.

Not quite, the norinco 81s was a semi auto only type 81 imported into the states 88-89 in very limited numbers. Here are some pics at this link, looks to be the same ones posted here already but one clearly shows it stamped t81s.

Well then. I was thinking 84s when you said 81s. I think you just sunk my battleship. If that is the case I doubt the lab would re-think it's position on the classification. Why give us something fun?

Those are the same pics. Same article.

^^ I agree!

I guess it was just a matter of time, the guy said himself he was trolling.
